Bethany Wilkerson's parents CAN get health insurance...it's easy! |
|
All they have to do is have one of them quit his or her job, and start a business. That's what I did, and that way you can get group health insurance through the Chamber of Commerce, like I did. (Group insurance does cover pre-existing conditions, and they can't turn you down.)
Simple.
And then, all you have to do to get coverage for two adults and a child (same as we have), is to send the insurance company about the same as what we pay, which is a paltry $2,175.00 per month.
I mean, who couldn't do that?

(PS: I don't use smilies, but it shouldn't matter. If you didn't get the sarcasm, you weren't paying attention.)
(PS #2: how long do you suppose it will be before you see my recommendation in some rightwing blog, without a trace of sarcasm?)

1. $2,175 per month! That's outrageous, when the average is now around $12,500 per year--which is way |
|
too much for many working and middle class families. We are truly being taken for a ride by the Republicans' favoarite special interest--health insurance companies.

I mean, the insurance company is happy to have your money, and that's what counts, right?:sarcasm:

The struggling families I sometimes work with face exactly that dilemma.

4. Yes, ins. co's are fleecing us! I did some checking last week |
|
on getting ins just for ME. My husband turned 65 in Sept. and would LOVE to quit working, but I won't be 65 until NEXT Sept. so he has to continue working to keep MY health ins. The first quote I got was $975/mo! WHAT???? How could we ever pay that much when our income is going to be a total of $1,60 a month? I found several other policies, but they have deductibles of $3,000 to $10,000 a year!

I recently read about a new widow who has to pay about the same amount for her and her two kids. I don't know how people do it, $24,000 a yr for health insurance. As we all know..there are many who can't.
My neighbor is in his late 70's. His supplemental health insurance costs him around $900 a month.

6. Not all group insurance cover pre-existing conditions |
|
You are rather lucky that you were able to get coverage, even at that price, that does. There are a lot of "Group Plans" being pitched to consumers (those late-night adds for "affordable health insurance), that are not HIPAA certified. This means that they can and will exclude pre-existing conditions. My experience has been that will try to treat any expensive claim as "Pre-existing", regardless of medical evidence to the contrary.

8. Hey, if we had socialized medicine and I paid that $24K a year in TAXES, |
|
at least some of the money would be used to help offset the cost of medical care for people who, as it stand, can't afford ANY health insurance.
I'd prefer that. Even if my costs were the same under socialized medicine, I'd still a hell of a lot rather see it go to help others than to a damn insurance company.
