What is ANY president's absolute zero job approval? |
|
I posted another thread asking about Il Dunce's absolute zero approval rating.
But it occurred to me that there must be some point below which even a man who eats children on live teevee can't fall.
If so, what do you think that number is? Please assume this refers to a generic president .... to ANY president of ANY party.

1. I've always been of the belief that 10% of people who respond to any poll |
|
are not paying attention to the question, have not thought about the question before in their lives, or are otherwise picking randomly, and so any position will automatically at least 5% of the population. Factor in absolute diehard supporters, and I'd say falling below 15% would be practically impossible.

6. I think Carter was this low (24%) |
|
And Nixon, for all intents and purposes, was too.
MIMS still has lots of time to go lower.

11. The economy hasn't collapsed yet.. |
|
which it well could before the chimp leaves. He'd probably drop another 5-10% percent at least in that event.

3. Higher than many would think. 25%, perhaps. |

I think Bush is getting close to rock bottom. There are always going to be people who blindly follow any leader and support him simply because he's the president. Also, there are a lot of people who pay no attention to politics or national or world events, and those people will continue to support him, as well.
You'd be surprised. I lived in Nebraska for close to 20 years, and the support of him to this day is pretty high. SurveyUSA.com had it recently in the 50% range.

It's down to the "Doomsday Cult Fundies" and "Black Helicopter" types. The ones who think that Bush is the only thing saving them from gay U.N. troops kicking down their door to confiscate their Bibles and guns.

No one can fall lower than 0% approval. Ever. It is the point at which all job approval ceases.
This isn't a likely position to be in, as even a child-eating-live-on-teevee president would still have the support of the niche pedicidal cannibal lobby and the diehards who would say he was framed, and there's always that pesky margin of error to consider.
But this is also the case for absolute zero temperatures -- even in low temperature labs 0'K is still (barely) out of reach, it's a theoretical baseline of zero molecular motion rather than a naturally-occurring condition.
Which leads me to wonder, if a hypothetical president were to approach the 0% approval range, would he exhibit some political analog of superconductivity? One might speculate that King Louis XVI got about as close to 0% job approval as a ruler can realistically go before he ceases to rule at all...

9. I guess you have to determine what percentage (say, about 30?) of the population |
|
is completely incapable of going against the current regime.

he is an authoritarian and serves as a daddy figure
I am impressed that he is as low as he is actually (and actually lower than Nixon)
He is getting very close to the botton if not there already
Statistical error tells me that he can't go that much lower... than 20%
