What's with all the demands for "apologies"?
Edited on Fri Oct-19-07 09:33 AM by cmt928
Since end of 2001, I have noticed so many in congress and on our "free airwaves" have been demanding apologies from others. How did the phenomenon occur?

Stark should say he would apologize
IF McConnell would first TELL THE TRUTH and admit his office had something to do with smear on Frost and his family and then demand McConnell apologize for the LIE and then apologize for the smear

IF DeLay and the Repukes would apologize for twisting Kerry's remarks that if kids don't do well in school, they could end up in Iraq

IF the veterans for truth would apologize for swiftboating John Kerry and Max Cleland

IF O'Lielly would apologize for his remarks about the young victim of kidnapping

IF Limpballs would apologize for his remarks daily about others, especially "libruls"

IF and ONLY IF dubya, uncle dick and rummy would apologize for the LIE that got us into Iraq

Who would you demand an apology from and for what?

1. I guess you can't be allowed the parliamentary courtesy of having an oppositional viewpoint.
Especially if you're a democrat.

3. I wish Pete Stark would apologize
And his apology should go like this:
"I wish to convey my sympathy to the people of the United States who have been saddled with a president who has started wars illegally, failed to respond to crises and broken laws willingly and with impunity. I used the term amusement based on the actions and words of this president. I am simply saddened that such a poor excuse for a human being is president."

8. Yes, and every Dem. who has the floor for the next two weeks
should say the same thing. Over and over and over. Enough killing already.

"contentious" remark.

5. Dems aren't supposed to have spines
And if they do, they're supposed to apologize afterwards.

7. The others may apply
but:

IF the veterans for truth would apologize for swiftboating John Kerry and Max Cleland

IF O'Lielly would apologize for his remarks about the young victim of kidnapping

IF Limpballs would apologize for his remarks daily about others, especially "libruls"

These statements were made by jackass private citizens, not on the floor of the house by a sitting congressman.

9. Yes, but they, as private citizens, demand apologies
from others private citizens on air. I am just asking, when did this start and why?

11. nothing more than GOP code.
just like
"support the troops"
"Thank you for your service"
"Liberals are hate-mongers"

which pretty much say the same thing.

13. I know, it is so typical, but I cannot help but ask
even when I know the answer!

Don't debate the issue (e.g. SCHIP), smear the person!

14. It is worth noting...
...that all of the "demands for apology" come from the rabid right wing, directed at Democrats. Never, or hardly ever, do we hear "demands for apology" directed at the Republics and their minions in the media. Now why would that be? Especially with all of the hateful rhetoric they spew on a daily basis?

Good for Rep. Stark! Let's have more truth-telling in Congress!

when they lie, it ends up being twisted and "I mispoke".

and there's a very good chance he's going to tell them to go pound sand.

16. Orwellian Double-Standards are commonplace in totalitarian nations like Imperial Amerika
Edited on Fri Oct-19-07 10:16 AM by tom_paine
is rapidly becoming.

You see, because of their monstrous proganda machine which dominates and sometimes fully controls the National Dialogue, any truth can be obfuscated, withte Bushies spraying their "ink" like squids with sophist lies and half-truths, who themselves are the result of multi-billion dolllar "think tanks" which are nothing more than the backbone of Goebbels' Propaganda Mills.

And any lie can be laundered into "conventional wisdom" (which most people mistake for truth) by the same token of co-ordinated sophisticated propagandistic repetition), and that is what explains why these examples are all let slide, while the Bushies can bring extraordinary pressure by using their Propagandia Machine (which has the advantage that most of our fellow Imperial Subjects of Amerika have not the critical thinking skills to recognize what is esentially the rebirth of the Soviet Proapaganda Machine, though much more subtly constructed, with hot blondes and celebrity news).

It is like a machine with now well-worn gears and succesful pathways. Lies and half-truths (lies of omission) are fed into one end and trumpeting vitriol comes out the other end. It is the Mighty Wurlitzer as the Bushies themselves call it, and cleary the Democratic Leadership have been conditioned like Pavolv's Dogs to FEAR the "swat in the nose with a rolled up newspaper" that such a Mighty Wurlitzer can bring and having innocence or truth one one's side means NOTHING in the face of such concentrated, well-constructed and psychologically designed propaganda which is like commercials in that it seeks to create a sort of "subconscious gestalt" that alter's people's beliefs and actions without them knowing it or thus being able to defend against it.

This is only one facet of a many-faceted situation, but you asked, quite correctly, how such Orwellian Double-Standards could exist and no one seem to notice.

Well, that's how. And all you need is a multi-billion dollar organization that will be allowed to construct the propaganda machinery for two deacdes with no real opposition from your clueless "opposition".

Oh, and the rise of the thought-killing punditocracy (which for all we know could also have been part of the Bushie Plan, but probably was just a natural occurance that happened to serve their purposes) has atrophied the American Mind that few notice any of this.

I am getting better at condensing five pages of explanation into something relatively brief. Being a student of the New Totalitarianism for seven long years (twenty, really, though I did not know what I was studying until the blatant theft of 2000 awoke me) will do that to a person.
