you'll get what you want
If you put people on ignore because they challenge you

If you try and limit who'll post in a thread you started

If you sneeringly and most often fallaciously label people centrists/DLC/collaborators/apologists/enablers/deniers and dismiss any point of view that doesn't fit with yours

If you insist on believing that your truth is the only truth

If you persist in believing that the "true left" is really a beleaguered minority on DU, then it's very likely that:

you'll get your pure threads that are filled with self-congratulations and self-righteousness: A veritable amen chorus.

I actually find that both sad and rather weak.

1. Yep
The key is to lower your expectations of your fellow DUers - that way you aren't disappointed as much.

8. I try to see everyone idiividually
rather than as parts of groups. Admittedly, that's sometimes difficult.

2. true enough . . . . but it works both ways
there are also lots of folks on this board who erroneously label others who aren't as centrist as tinfoil hat wearers/loony left/Naderites/naive/obstructionist/enablers/deniers. Just as likely to create a useless echo-chamber. Witness the number of threads lately about tombstoning those who won't sign up for a loyalty oath . . . . just as counterproductive.

4. You're right
and I've been guilty of calling people tinfoilers, though I don't do it often. And here's the thing: I'm not a centrist, yet I've often been labeled one, not because of the political positions I hold, but for other reasons.

5. I put two types of posters on ignore:
1. Posters who unapologetically support corporatist free trade and offshore outsourcing to the point where they believe it's part of a natural economic cycle, no big deal and opposing it borders on xenophobia. Yes, they DO exist on this site. Often times, they don't last long.

I'm sorry, but there are some issues that are deal-breakers for me, and that's one of them. That isn't at all a Democratic position. AT ALL. I've talked to far too many people in person, on this site and others who fell victim to this unfortunate practice; even those who've suffered the indignity of training their own replacement. I'm not about to entertain the suggestion that destroying one middle class to help/lift another is sound economic policy. That's bullshit.

2. Curmudgeonly finger-wagging flamethrowers who consistently contribute nothing to the discussion and continually get away with flaming others (see: 9/11 forum. I'm a Paul Thompson MIHOPer and resent the implication that there's something wrong with me because of this belief) despite multiple alerts by yours truly. When nothing is done about it, it becomes a distraction which you have to take into your own hands. That isn't being weak; it's called "clean-up".

That being said, I don't put pro-Hillary posters on ignore. I find them a source of amusement and life that this board needs, with their loyalty oaths and finger wagging.

6. Well, it's pretty clear that most of the posts
on this thread are about to be deleted. Oh well.

7. Amen.
I don't have anyone on ignore. I imagine I'm on "ignore" though because I can be awfully opinionated.

Your post is helpful and a reminder that we are all upset, but need to remember that nearly everyone here (99.9%) are on the same side.
