Pelosi Rebukes Stark for Iraq Comments
Pelosi Rebukes Stark for Iraq Comments

WASHINGTON (AP) - House Speaker Nancy Pelosi rebuked a fellow San Francisco Bay-area liberal Friday for what she said were "inappropriate" comments about Iraq during a congressional debate.

During a debate on children's health care Thursday, Rep. Pete Stark accused Republicans of sending troops to Iraq to "get their heads blown off for the president's amusement."

Condemnations rolled in from Republican politicians, right-leaning bloggers had a field day, and a White House spokesman declined to "dignify those remarks" with a response.

Pelosi issued a statement Friday evening rapping Stark, who is in his 18th term representing the liberal East Bay. He's California's longest-serving House members.

"While members of Congress are passionate about their views, what Congressman Stark said during the debate was inappropriate and distracted from the seriousness of the subject at hand—providing health care for America's children," Pelosi said.

4. I've been holding out on this for a long time, but now I have to say
Nancy Pelosi can go take a jump. She's wrong, Stark is right, and her comments make someone look stupid - and it's not Stark.

19. Randi Rhodes was playing the clip of Bush laughing about WMDs
over and over again today, and every time I heard him, and every time I heard people LAUGHING ABOUT IT, I wanted to scream! What the FUCK is so funny about it?

This morning, Thom Hartmann, whom normally I admire, made the excuse that it was Bush's joke writer, not Bush, who came up with that schtick. That may be so, but BUSH IS THE ONE WHO WENT THROUGH WITH IT. He is ultimately responsible.

Fucking spineless bastards. :grr: :grr: :grr:

9. What the hell is wrong with DU?
Do you think it's okay for a Democrat on the floor of the House to act like Ann Coulter? Do you think 2 wrongs, or 22 or 222, make a right?

Pelosi was right to rebuke Stark. What he said was preposterous. Even DUHbya isn't "amused" by the deaths of our soldiers.

13. If Stark had, say, disparaged Jews...
then you'd have something resembling a comparison to Anne Coulter.

"Even DUHbya isn't "amused" by the deaths of our soldiers."

Why wouldn't he be? He's the one who kills them and laughs about it.

23. Uh, wrong. I am quite sure Bush is amused by his grip on this country
and how he gets to move the little tokens around on the board at his whim. You don't understand sociopaths and sadists.

26. Ann Coulter?
who is she, and why should I give a shit what she says? It is nice that one elected official who represents some of the families of those 3832 individuals who are now dead, would start raising a ruckus over this bullshit.

28. Stark was 100% right. "Amusement" is precisely the right word!
Bush really and truly enjoys being a 'wartime' president. It makes him smirk and swagger even more to reflect upon how important he is as Commander in Chief.

Bush really IS amused as people die. His "No WMDs here" skit showed a man who was having a good time while his soldiers die needlessly.

Bush really, really, really, really IS "amused" by the carnage in Iraq.

But "we" are not amused.

She appears to dislike the Democratic Party immensely and disagrees with everything it stands for. Why is she bothering to remain a Democrat.

Switch, Nancy, so we can get a real leader.

22. kestrel just rebuked Nancy in a "very strongly worded letter".
Unfortunately, kestrel also forgot to put it on her clipboard to paste here, lol. But Nancy will blush at the "strongly worded" part.

No profanity in it, BTW. Just a firm opinion.

And the horse she rode in on.

You don't bring a knife to a gunfight Nancy. This seems something the majority of the Dems are forgetting these days.

They've become a huge part of the problem.

I hope that there is enough new Democratic blood running against them next primary election so we can really clean house.

Their enabling has become completely unacceptable.

33. Damn her. I've finally had it with her......
I'm beginning to believe Pelosi is terminally middle-class, as in she lives in a world where the worst thing you can do is be "not nice", and where nothing really bad ever happens that can't be worked out by civil discourse between well-meaning people, etc. etc.....

We need a street fighter. Pelosi may be well-meaning, but she doesn't know how to kick ass, and probably thinks it's inexcusably rude to do so.
