2. I guess I'm not too surprise that
the states that rate highest are on the east and west coats. Some of the ratings made me really sad- like West Virginia which came in dead last.

3. Actually, that one didn't surprise me that much...
Its still a state that relies, as far as I'm aware of, on coal mining, one of the most environmentally destructive industries on the planet.

5. No, it didn't surprise me either,
due to the practices of Mountain top coal removal, but it's such a beautiful place that it did make me sad.

9. Its OK, I only live in the state of Misery.
At least we have 9 states that are worse than us.

4. Michigan #24
We should be doing better than that since we are surrounded by the Great Lakes.

Shame on us.

7. Well, you're one up from Maine and considering all the
industry in your state, it looks like Michigan must be doing some stuff right.

Btw, I think the Upper Peninsula is a spectacular place.

8. Idaho #12, with the lowest per capita carbon footprint
Probably largely a result of the plentiful hydroelectric power. Surprising, still.

10. I'm a little surprised that NY outranks MA...
aside from that no big surprises.

11. From the article: How the states are rated:
A bit about our methodology--we ranked each state in six equally weighted categories: carbon footprint, air quality, water quality, hazardous waste management, policy initiatives and energy consumption.

A bit of alarming info- they couldn't use data from the EPA to rank water quality, because the last comprehensive collection, by the EPA, of such data is more than 5 years old. That's par for the course for the EPA under bushco.

12. All I can say is that our water doesn't taste any worse...
actually its well treated, as far as I can tell, can't taste a thing. I will say the rivers here, I live right about where they merge, are just as bad as 5 years ago, if not worse. Let's just say when you cross the Missouri river, the stink, which smells like someone farted, is quite strong(silent but deadly), when temperatures rise above about 45-50 degrees.

13. Meh, I don't trust that list
There is no way that there are 15 states with worse polution issues than Texas.

14. Oh, I don't know
the rating Texas get is pretty sucky- though they can't hold a candle to the five worst.

15. Good ol' Indiana ...
49 out of 50.

Add to that they're one of the top ten states with the highest foreclosures.

16. New York at #9.
Given the size and population density, I would almost say I am proud.

17. But New York's population density, once you take the NYC metro area out....
isn't that great at all.
