MUST SEE VIDEO !!! - 1988, George Bush On His And Dan Quayle's National Guard Service\Vietnam !!!

<snip>

Take a look at this video from 1988 of Connie Chung interviewing a much younger George W. Bush at the 1988 Republican National Convention. Chung asks Bush about then Vice Presidential Candidate, Dan Quayle, and his admission that phone calls had been made to get him out of serving in Viet Nam and into the National Guard. Our future president lauds Quayle for his service in the Guard, then proceeds to gloat to a surprised Chung:

Bush: “I flew fighters in the Texas Air National Guard for which I’m very proud.”

“They should have probably called up the National Guard in those days. Maybe we would have done better in Vietnam.”

7. Some NG were called to active duty and served in Vietnam:
"During the Vietnam war, almost 23,000 Army and Air Guardsmen were called up for a year of active duty; some 8,700 were deployed to Vietnam." http://www.ngb.army.mil/About/default.aspx

The Boston Globe noted in its review of his military record that GW could have been sent to active duty for his failure to participate as required:

"The reexamination of Bush's records by the Globe, along with interviews with military specialists who have reviewed regulations from that era, show that Bush's attendance at required training drills was so irregular that his superiors could have disciplined him or ordered him to active duty in 1972, 1973, or 1974. But they did neither. In fact, Bush's unit certified in late 1973 that his service had been ''satisfactory" -- just four months after Bush's commanding officer wrote that Bush had not been seen at his unit for the previous 12 months." http://www.boston.com/news/nation/articles/2004/09/08/bush_fell_short_on_duty_at_guard/
