I'm not good at thinking of subject lines.
I think it should be legal to buy/sell/grow weed.
I think most DU'ers would probably agree with me, because then it could be regulated to make sure it wasn't contaminated. How funny would it be if you could buy weed that was USDA certified organic?
But I don't really trust the USDA. I believe that they recently loosened the standards for what could be considered organic. So even if it was legal I would probably still only buy it if it was grown by someone I knew and trusted not to use pesticides on it.
I don't have anything against people using weed but just the fact that it was (wrongly, in my opinion) made illegal means that there is a black market for it. I talked to people in my town who I know buy weed on a fairly regular basis, and they don't know where it was grown. So that's one thing I wanted to ask DU'ers who have bought it: Is that pretty much how it typically is? That you buy it and don't know where it came from? Stupid question, probably...but what the hell do I know?
That's another reason why I think it should be legal. Getting rid of the black market. But making crops legal doesn't really stop people from killing people for them, does it? Bananas, for instance, are pretty much the most legal plant product thing in the world, but people are still getting killed over those. (DU, I think, reported on the Chiquita case several months before the New York Times did. I love this place.)
I like the idea of people being able to use marijuana if they want to... I really hate the industry aspect of it, though.

1. could there be a connection between your weed use and crappy subject lines?
Just sayin'.

2. No... There was a box that said "subject" and a box that said "message".
I had a message... but not a subject.
I could have said, "I think weed should be legal", but then everyone would have thought, "Yeah, I agree, but there have been a million threads about that already, so I won't click on this one."
I could have just said, "This Is A Thread About Marijuana", but that would sound silly.
And then I realized...I was really bad at coming up with subject lines. So I just put that as my subject.

3. There's some fine logic.
I think most DU'ers would probably agree with me, because then it could be regulated to make sure it wasn't contaminated.
Okay, so you want to legalize it to regulate it. I don't know how big a problem "contaminated" marijuana is, but sure, let's go for it.

But I don't really trust the USDA. I believe that they recently loosened the standards for what could be considered organic.
So you want to legalize it to regulate it, but you don't trust the government to regulate it.

So even if it was legal I would probably still only buy it if it was grown by someone I knew and trusted not to use pesticides on it.
So even if it were legalized, and thus regulated, you'd still buy pot that was grown the exact same way--unregulated, and thus (presumably) illegal.

Posting while high kills ;)

5. Heh, just givin' you a hard time. I think decriminalization and regulation of marijuana
might be a decent idea.

6. it's not illegal to buy things that are not regulated
Farmer's markets, for example. Are those regulated? When I grew up my parents used to get eggs from a local farm, not from a grocery store. Same with the things my dad makes with his rock saws and polishing machines. Legal for him to sell, but not regulated.

7. Not generally, no. However,
given the nature of marijuana, its political history, and its current association with illegal and unsavory organizations, I cannot imagine that unregulated transactions would be legalized. Given the level of regulation that pseudoephedrine is subject to, well, I doubt marijuana would be more freely purchased.
