Mahr was completely within his rights |
|
to kick off some loumouth jackass in his audience. I dont remember anyone (not even religious people) carping to hard when he kicked that evangelical guy out of his audience for trying to preach during his standup show.

They deserved to not only be kicked out but they should have gotten their asses kicked.

2. Well, SS has spoken, so that's that. No further discussion needed. |
|
SS has informed us of the only POV that's acceptable. :hi: MKJ

6. I never said that POV was the only acceptable one |
|
Just the only one BILL MAHR wants on his show, because it is HIS show if people with another POV was to say something on HBO, get some sponsors and buy some airtime.
Or get a $5 soapbox and stand on it.}(

7. Haven't you just reiterated again that no other POV is acceptable? |
|
I actually agree with you, but I'm not starting a thread TELLING people exactly how they should view Maher's handling of it.
It's your soapbox upon which I'm remarking. :hi: MKJ

I was more complaining abotu how there was dead silence when he kicked a religious person out of his show for being a loudmouth, because the paying audience didnt want to hear it, same with what just happened.

3. I find it both illuminating and saddening that this point |
|
even needs to be made on DU.

13. Do you think "Tombstoning" and "Asskicking" are meant literally as doing violence and death, |

5. Hooray for Bill Maher. We need 100 men and women like him to stand strong |
|
and man the airwaves. If only all the Faux Faces had 1% of his backbone and one iota of his brains!

10. i also agree with maher |
|
this was not a two-way debate. if someone elects to be in a show's audience and chooses to be disruptive, then they deserve to be escorted out (without getting their "ass kicked").

11. How Come I Knew This Would Be A Big Deal At DU? |
|
While I was watching the show, I knew that no sooner would I check in with this place, there'd be a ton of "outraged" viewers...I wasn't let down.
A TV show isn't a public forum...it's a private venue where management can apply rules of "decorum"...and when you accept the ticket (they're given away) you then agree with the terms of that agreement. Mahrer was within his rights to toss these people. The big difference is this show was being done live...disruptions and problems happen on other shows all the time, but can be edited out. I've seen edits on The Daily Show and Colbert Report on a regular basis and it's both the peril and charm of a live broadcast.
Now, do the people who feel Mahrer was being a "censor" or whatever, feel the same way if they saw someone run on the playing field during the game. Would you demand this person have the field cleared and allowed to finish his "demonstration"?
This is what makes DU such a wonderful place...
