Speaker Pelosi: Colossal Cost of Iraq War Grows Every Day

Colossal Cost of Iraq War Grows Every Day
October 22nd, 2007 by Speaker Pelosi

Demanding nearly $200 billion for Iraq while vetoing health care for 10 million children exemplifies the Bush Administration’s misplaced priorities. On key issues – from the Iraq war to children’s health insurance – the President continues to oppose the will of the American people and obstructs the New Direction Congress’ bipartisan agenda.

For the cost of less than 40 days in Iraq, we could provide health care coverage to 10 million children for an entire year.

The colossal cost of this war grows every day – in lives lost, dollars spent, and to our reputation around the world. The American people long ago rejected the President’s planned 10-year occupation of Iraq and want the Administration to provide a concrete plan to bring our troops home.

The choice is between a Democratic plan for responsible redeployment of our troops and the President’s plan to spend another trillion dollars for a 10-year war in Iraq. We must end this war.

1. It doesn't just grow on its own. YOU fund it! You, personally, MS Pelosi, fund it.

4. So Stop It Already
Edited on Mon Oct-22-07 04:31 PM by momster
Find a way...do what you have to do to stop the war. It's why you're Speaker today because the people who elected Democrats want to stop the war. Take the heat, let them call you names, let them shake, shiver and foam...Stop The War. Now.

but alas, now she will never get to hear it.

IMPEACH!

Start with Chaney.

9. Interesting that the person
who could get it stopped is complaining to us, those who have little if any power, about it. The tiny bit of power we have we used to put her where she is by working for the Dems and she has the nerve to not stop it and then talk about it to us. Man that takes a lot of nerve, nerve that would be better put to use stopping the criminals in the White House.

12. Ms. Pelosi, STOP ACTING HELPLESS!
And quit pandering the to Repubs...this Congress is as partisan as it gets- you can't do anything about that, but you can do what we all ask without checking with your pollsters.

Hillary's adviser put it perfectly- The public would prefer a decisive leader despite whether that leader may be wrong, rather than one who seems indecisive and weak and right.

Do the right thing and be decisive!

14. Cutting the funding will never happen.
The Dems are afraid to do that. They will be blamed for losing Iraq, The Oil.

For the next funding Bill attach S-CHIP funding. Let the AssClown Veto that! Send the same Bill every month. Let him Veto it for remaining months that he squats in our WH.

15. Oh, that's a genius idea. He he. Of course, he'll probably just make a signing statement
saying S-CHIP doesn't count.

16. I am not that educated about the "Signing Statement".
It seems that just as the Min. Wage was placed in the last Funding Bill & was signed that it is now Law.

17. 'Dems are afraid of that', and that's the problem, isn't it. They're not
all afraid; I think there are about 90 House members who've sworn to not approve any more funding for the war. So why don't the 'big boys' take a page out of that book.
The funding needs to be cut; otherwise, everytime this asshat tries to insist on more, he'll be draining this country drier and drier.

20. Will any Dems also think of that idea & do it?
I cannot imagine that they have not thought about it. By now, they surely know that most Dems
are not pleased with their performance lately.

22. Only because you find it expedient, Ms. Pelosi.
I know there would be a political cost to defunding, but I am also sure that the political benefit for a party with such courage will be much greater.

It's also obvious that you are reminding us of the cost so that we will petition you ever harder to stop the goddamned war. I just wish you would show more courage than your constituents.
