So What If They Had Censured Him? / Any Down Side?
Coming from this Congress a censure would almost be a badge of honor, so why would he give into the demands? The only reason I can think of is he would lose his standing on powerful committees, Any others?

“Presumably, censure of the President would take the form of a resolution adopted by both the House and Senate and then publicly announced. Legally, the resolution would have no effect. Censure derives from the formal condemnation by either the House or the Senate in rebuke of a Member of their own body. After a majority vote, the Member is publicly denounced, but still retains the position of Representative or Senator. However, the House removes the offending Member from any leadership positions in committees or sub-committees.”

‘Today Stark is the longest-serving member of Congress from California. He has been a ranking member of the Banking and Currency Committee and powerful Ways and Means Committee. His voting record is generally very liberal, as indicated in the ratings section below, and he has been voted the most liberal member of Congress for two consecutive years. He was a founding member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus.

Stark is known to have a longstanding interest in health care issues and has been critical of the fate of the uninsured under the current administration.<4>’

2. What a bunch of losers; however, Stark was smart not to lose his
powerful committee positions. I would say that they are worth the apology for the people, not just the rep himself. He seems a sensible, heads-up type.

3. The down side would have been the spectacle of Dems eating their own again
The Dems in Congress just can't apologize often enough or fast enough, the wimps. It would be nice to have an opposition party to Bush, wouldn't it?

6. Harry Truman On Apologies To Republicons
Harry Truman's quote about apologizing to Republicans

He said, "Carry the battle to them, don't let them bring it to you. Put them on the defensive and don't ever apologize for anything."

4. If the Dems stand up to * they are censured.
If they don't stand up to * they are wimps. Lets save a lot of time and just let the fascists have their way and when the country is finally reduced to 3rd status, we will have all the dry powder to ..... never mind.

5. Pete Stark was forced by Pelosi to embarras himself in public
and on the House Floor. She intentionally berated him so she could make herself look good, instead of handling the entire event behind closed doors. She raced to declare to everyone in the country that she did not agree with him, then strong-armed him with her goon Hoyer to make him apologize. Here is a guy who has been in public service for 18 years and he was driven to tears. I feel for him because I'm sure he did not want to apologize.

To me, this is the worst case of Democratic spinelessness and disloyality to our own party that I have seen since this woman has been Speaker.

Indeed, the 2008 elections will not be kind to her or her BushDogs.
