7. Looks matter but it is a certain look according to the times

in which the candidate runs.

It is not necessarily "good looking".

Image is a better word--you might think of another.

Romney looks as if he just stepped out of Central Casting for
President of the US. As I see it, he probably could have taken
off like a jet leaving everyone else in the dust. He is manly looking
as well. There are books, even David Brooks who writes on culture
in a very entertaining way--speaks of the manly man. Romney is
good looking and is manly enough. IMO, he has been slowed down
and had to really work to stay ahead in the early primaries. Romneyu
comes across as too darn perfect. So people are having to really
check him out to see if he is real. THE LOOKS helped but not everything
However, Rommney may just win the GOP nomination.

Edwards is another good looking guy. I like Edwards so this makes
me uncomfortable to say it. Edwards looks reflect a "pretty boy"
as opposed to the manly man. I realize people work hard to be thin.
but thin men are not manly men. He has to work hard to prove he is
"man enough" to lead.

Times change and different characteristics are valued. I would
bet if one my very favorite presidents, JFK, ran today he would
have a difficult time and I question if he could win.

Why has Rudy taken off like wildfire in spite of all his foibbles.

Rudy has the Image for today. Manly Man, has a take charge aura
about him which says I am a leader. He does not even have to open
his mouth--commands attention. This does not mean he will win
in the end but he walked into the race well ahead based on natural
attributes.

Remember, JFK probably could not win in today's environment.
In another 10 years there will be other characteristics that matter
more.
