Don Imus just called Joe Wilson a "Fat Weenie & a lying Scum"!!! WTF??
I woke up a while ago and turned the TV on and it happened to have been left on MSNBC...First I was listening to him interview Chris Dodd, and it seemed somewhat interesting, but now he is in a discussion with Kelly O'Donnell about the Libby trial and is on a rant about Joe Wilson. Then he said that about him!!!

WTF?

I am sorry, but that is uncalled for - name calling is immature, especially for a commentator/host, and he comes across like a infantile and unintelligent person incapable of discussing an issue that he may disagree with, but this comment completely ignores all facts about Joe Wilson and what he has done for this country and been subjected to.

Lying scum? I'd like to know what Don Imus thinks Joe Wilson has "lied" about? Unlike the real liars in the White House, I'd put forward the argument that Joe Wilson was perhaps the only one who was telling the truth...

Fat Weenie? Hardly...I've seen Wilson in person...he's actually a handsome man....unlike Imus....

3. Did he say why he thought Joe Wilson was a fat weenie and..
lying scum? I think Imus is suffering from some kind of mental disorder, maybe senility is setting in. I'm not sure why anyone would listen to his rantings and above all, why anyone would care what he thinks.

12. No, he didn't say why he thought he was a fat weenie and lying scumbag...
I just sent an email to him at Imus@msnbc.com and told him I found it offensive and that frankly I believe that Joe Wilson is an hero. I pointed out that the things Wilson told us about what he didn't find in Niger proved to be true, unlike the lies of the White House and VP office that took us into an illegal war that has killed many people. I also asked the question about how many lives of CIA operatives and informants were risked and perhaps died as a result of the outing of Valerie Plame and Brewster Jennings? I also pointed out that Joe Wilson is actually quite a handsome man for his age...

and he popped pills all the time.

IMO, he has never stopped his drug habits.
All the time he sounds stoned and out of it and he goes from LOVE to HATE with his guests all the time.

The guests kiss his butt ALL the time. It is a good ole boys network and he knows how to work it.

done the same in his youth.

But, hey, if IMUS declares such infantile and inaccurate statements about people like Wilson, I wouldn't be surprised if he decides to criticize Obama too...

8. I met Joe Wilson in person last October when he was speaking here in New Haven
He does have a little paunch but he is a handsome, articulate, sincere and intelligent man. Imus is brain damaged from all that booze. I've known drunks and former drunks who are like that. They are impossible.

The editors at The New Republic also did a number on Wilson several months back. They were making fun of him, saying that you have to avoid him at Washington cocktail parties or he'll bore you with his story. Well, he can talk to me anytime he wants. And the editors at TNR are jealous because Wilson is getting so much attention and they are not.

Wilson has a cause that is just, he has a beautiful family, makes a nice living, and has lived an exciting life. He was brave enough to stare down Saddam Hussein and save the lives of many people caught in Iraq just before the first Gulf War. Imus would have run away, miserable worm that he is!

anybody thinks.

Have you read Wilson's book "The Politics of Truth"? It is terrific. For some reason, this whole story is fascinating to me. I think it would make a great film, along the lines of "All the President's Men." I hope it will be a film after the criminal and civil trials are over and maybe more stuff comes out on Rove and Cheney.

He and the chimp would probably pull each other's fingers a lot if the two of them spent any time together. I can't stand him and never watch or listen. I make a point of not tuning in to MSNBC until after his "show" ends. The "I'm an ass" moniker suits him perfectly.

in detail here at DU. I've met Imus - 30 years ago - but met him nonetheless in Atlantic City - he was and is a drug-addled, abusive asshole who is occasionally funny and has good guests on his show.

I've never seen Imus in person, but I will say I found that Joe Wilson is a very handsome man for his age...I say that as a woman who is married to a gorgeous man who trains for the Iron Man and is in great shape....I remember seeing Joe Wilson the first time at the Downing Street Memo hearings when I was in DC and I thought that he was a good-looking man. He had a presence and great eyes.

He seemed to be a nice guy, altho I do think he is wound a bit tight over the situation, and who wouldn't be? Honestly, when the editors of the New Republic started in on him in a very pissy way, all I could think of was that they were jealous of his bravery and his fame. They wished they had been as courageous and as principled as he. And then there's his beautiful wife. I sometimes think THAT's what got some of these guys upset!

Here in Los Angeles, he had a ZERO rating, yet they kept him on for years!

Aren't we lucky to have such devoted Democratic spokespeople and strategists on 'our' side?

30. Maybe
I have this theory that Joe Wilson was the original source for that story about Rove being indicted. A couple reporters heard that story - from one source only; and a number of those reporters are close to Wilson. Maybe that's what this is about. Please feel free to flame me, but I just wanted to say that once. I do think someone from Wilson's camp first circulated that rumor, which could explain some of the hostility the media has against him now.

Wilson strikes me as a very serious guy for whom it is very important to be taken seriously. The last thing he would want to do is circulate a rumor that wasn't 100% the truth. His credibility would be damaged and credibility is what he needs most in his civil suit against the bastids. He is also smart and this would NOT be a smart thing to do.

33. My email to Imus re Joe Wilson
Joe Wilson could have kept his mouth shut and he would have suffered no consequences to his life. He could have gone on going to Washington cocktail parties and schmoozing with whatever clique is in power, hiding behind the conveniently comfortable assumption that what is happening to our troops (including my nephews) is somehow appropriate and not the responsibility of each and every person in this country.

Instead, Joe Wilson spoke because he knows that the ends do not justify the means. He spoke for my nephews, who never stood a chance against the lies that were and still are being told. He resisted those who attack the truth. He spoke knowing what it would trigger from boozy, pseudo-tough guys, with pretend life-styles, who justify their own existence by under-cutting anyone who shows them up for what they truly are.

One wonders how charitable they'd be if they had NOTHING and received nothing for what they do, like some of the people I know from Catholic Worker House or like the Quakers I know who have devoted their lives to Economic Justice. Or like the United Methodists, Buddhists, and Unitarians I've seen working and leading the way under very uncomfortable circumstances.

These folks would NEVER say anything against the likes of Imus. They're too busy working for those who need help.
