Harold Ford, Jr. - DLC Chair, takes on role as vice chairman with Merrill Lynch
If anyone has any doubts where Fords allegiances lie within our party, this should clear all doubts.

1. Could you unpack that?
He took a job with Merrill Lynch - what is the significance of that?

3. Thanks for your answer

The Democrats worked to keep him in office, he almost made it but he now has a right to work for what ever company he wants to ~

I sure would rather keep him as a Democrat then turn him into a Joey.

6. As someone who endured his campaign here in Tennessee
Edited on Thu Feb-15-07 11:18 AM by TornadoTN
I'm just pointing out that he has been no friend to the middle-class or working poor in this state. First, he takes the job as chair of the DLC and then takes on this new role in top-heavy Merrill Lynch.

I don't have a problem with someone taking a job and a well paying one at that. What I do have a problem with is when the person runs around the state for two years blasting high-paid consultants, advisors, and CEO's only to turn into one after he fails to get the job as our Senator. He made so many promises that he was going to keep working for "us" even after the election, but it seems that the corporate money is speaking louder and more clearly than any other calling (that he also spoke about quite often).

8. Ah - so you think wealthy people or people with high end careers
should not be Democratic Politicians? I mean Ted Kennedy was born to wealth, is it hypocritical of him to champion the poor and the needy?

10. Not at all what I'm saying
Truth be told, I hold an executive role within my own company. I don't have a problem with wealth or fortune (or the pursuit thereof). What I do have a problem with was all of the smoke and mirrors that Ford used during the campaign, blasting the people that held the position that he is now taking. It's always been about Harold, quite simple.

12. Ah - so you have a personal animus against Ford
And you mention that he's got a new position to disparage him, and would like us all to fall in line.

OK - thanks for unpacking that. It makes more sense now.

13. Objective, much?
Did you even read what I wrote? Obviously not.

Ford's a likable guy, that much is true. It's just that many of us prefer our candidates and leaders to practice what they preach. Ford is a prime example of the antithesis of this principle.

Also, just for future reference, this is a discussion forum where different ideas are exchanged. I didn't expect anyone to "fall in line" or to necessarily agree with me on my position (which is essentially Ford is a hipocrit to the highest degree). Smarmy comments not-withstanding, thanks for your input.

14. Campaign promises mean little while running for office
and even less after you've lost for the office. To think he would keep every promise after the election is over that he lost is a bit naive. I too voted for Ford knowing full well what kind of person he is, but he was far better than that gnome Corker we have now.

Obviously he has realized he has no future in TN as a politician and has moved on to $greener$ pastures.

16. That's a pretty good way to look at it
Thanks for your response, I think you hit the proverbial nail on the head.

I agree that he is far superior to Corker, I still can't get over the fact that our state was ripe for the picking but we lost it. All because of the constant triangulation on the part of Ford, his ever changing positions on issues and the good ole' redneck racist persona that still exists in this state.

20. I think that had a lot to do with it but his uncle John Ford
Edited on Fri Feb-16-07 09:28 AM by MemphisTiger
had tarnished the already low Ford name and Tennessee Waltz scandal. I think it was too hard for Jr. to separate himself from the rest of his family who had been involved in shady issues.

7. Wow, that was really classy
Check my other post where I clarify why I have an issue with this. Further, if you want to know why this has me riled up, you are welcome to check my Journal.

I worked for the Ford campaign through it all - he was preferable to what we have now, but by no means did he impress me as a "Democrat".

11. He's found an appropriate home in the DLC...and Merrrill Lynch.
Though he should take the next obvious step and run for president...as a Republican.
