Maybe new strategy will keep Phelps too busy to protest
Millions cheered this week when Fred Phelps Sr. and his Westboro Baptist Church were slapped with a multimillion-dollar damage award for protesting at the funeral of a Marine killed in Iraq.

Among those crowing: Fred Phelps himself.

“Thank God for the $10.9 Million Verdict!” the Phelps gang announced in a news release on Wednesday.

The publicity surrounding the Maryland lawsuit brought by the Marine’s family, Phelps said, “will elevate me to something important.”

As for the damage award, which far surpasses the net worth of the defendants?

“It’s going to be reversed in five minutes,” Phelps prophesied.

It’s not a happy thought, but he could be right on both points.

1. All he needs is attention.
Making lemonade out of lemons is his specialty.

This will never stop them, they spread out now too easily. I can guarantee I could go out any day and drive around town at the busy drive times and find them in at least 2 spots, sometimes more. They crawl all over the place here every day. This has been going on here for as long as I can remember in one form or another. I wish I thought it would at least slow them down but I don't believe it will. When his lawsuits don't support his "mission" someone out there does.

Still, it may be the beginning of a thought process that could at least put a damper on them. I can only hope. I have seen them every day since the 80's and it would be so nice not to have them around.

:hi:

2. Glad you caught this
I tell people all the time that Phelps gets more attention from OUTSIDE of Kansas than within. And as much as I complain about media, our local media has done a beautiful job of ignoring him.

3. Same here.
The only time I ever see or hear of him in the media here is if it is a national story that is being covered all over the country or something especially egregious he has done here like the Maya Angelou incident.
