How Cool Would It Be For Al Gore To Announce On Thursday?
Think about it. Nobody is expecting it. Not a lot of people realize he is going to be making these appearances on Thursday, and even if they do, can't imagine it's any big deal.

Now, I realize it's far fetched, but is it possible? A coordinated effort to make unique TV history.

On Thursday, the episode starring Al Gore is scheduled to air between 8:00 & 8:30. This is 5:00-5:30 PM in Burbank, CA. In other words, the sitcom episode will be ending, right as Mr. Gore is taking the stage in Burbank.

Imagine if, the only ones who know what's about to happen, are a handful of people. Imagine if they taped a secret "ending" to the "30 Rock" episode, that only a few cast members and crew know about. That wasn't part of the live tv taping, so as not to leak. Suppose the scene involves simply the entire cast surrounding Mr. Gore, in Gore 2008 t-shirts, asking him to run. Episode closes at 8:30 PM EST, with Mr. Gore saying....."OK, OK.....I'll Run."

Now, suppose Al tells Jay Leno, keep his mouth 100% shut, and be granted a "scoop" during his appearance next Thursday.

So, we have a surprise ending at 8:30 PM EST, and a simultaneous appearance in Burbank for The Tonight Show taping. A Double Announcement? What would be hitting the wires, smack in the middle of Countdown, and in time for the headline in the next morning's papers.

This scenario, while admittedly Hopeful, is entirely possible. From the private taping of the "30 Rock" ending(after the studio audience has departed), to the simultaneous announcing in Burbank, coinciding with the first showing of that ending. Within the period of 60 Seconds, Mr. Gore could Surprise the world, and only a select few would know what is about to happen. It would make The Sopranos finale "surprise" look mild in comparison.

Well, we can always Hope. Ultimately, I think it matters little "How" he enters the race, the important thing is that he Does run, and in the end, people will care more about that, than how he announced in the first place. It would make for an ultra-cool Thursday November 8, 2007 however.

1. Thanks for the reminder, OrangeCountyDemocrat
Should Al Gore announce, I don't believe it will be by conventional means.

2. Timing
When I made the initial post, didn't realize that "30 Rock" is 8:30-9:00. Still within The Tonight Show taping period, so could work, although slightly trickier.

I think I'm beginning to feel like I'm in some surreal world, and am realizing I'm being unrealistic in my hope that Mr. Gore will run.

Anyways, perhaps it's just better to lose faith in our country completely, as opposed to believing there is some reason for "Hope" that things will change significantly for the better.

I guess I should just be happy a Democrat might be in the WH finally, even if it is ANOTHER CLINTON.

Bush, Clinton, Clinton, Bush, Bush, Clinton, Clinton.....once you say it a few times, it's kind of catchy. You can almost make a song out of it. Guess it's almost time to start accepting it as reality.

As people have been telling me, what are you going to do, leave? Where are you going to go then? Sigh.

18. he hasn't said that once, in fact
do some research before you make such blatantly disingenuous statements.

You Hillarites are quaking in your boots, aren't you?

You can't stop the GOREvolution!

6. If Gore ran again, he would win again. I honestly
think that if he does not run, the time will come when he will hugely regret not doing it.

This country is in bad shape, and he is better suited to bring the needed changes than anyone else on the scene. It's not fair to say that he owes it to the country to run - not fair, but I'll say it nevertheless: he owes it to the country to run.

7. That Will Ultimately Become Part Of His Legacy
If this country deteriorates, or becomes more of a MONARCHY under Clinton II, then he will be partly to blame.

While he will certainly be remembered for his accomplishments, in the same breath, people will refer to him as the sitting VP, who lost his final campaign race. Sure, I KNOW HE DIDN'T LOSE, but that will remain part of his bio. Along with the circumstances, of course, but the final history of his life in politics.

And if this country goes downhill, I for one, will always wonder what would have happened if he had ran in '08, and won the Presidency.

8. You're dreaming of a lot of scenarios.
Nothing in anything he says is giving any indication he is entertaining the idea. The email I received from him yesterday is like all the others. Pushing his cause and asking for help. But it's fun to think about I guess.

10. No, I'm About Ready To Accept It
It looks like I won't be paying much attention to politics next year.

Probably a little less time spent on DU.

Our future is set in stone, and I'd better just learn to accept it. We're going to end up with Hillary, Another in a series of leaders in our MONARCHY.

Sigh.

Won't they try and go for at least next week, or will the strike end things effective after today's show?

far too smart to announce on a sitcom.

Far smarter than a lot of DUers.

23. I like the way you think !!
I'm with you all the way. And in fact your timeline could actually work, as Leno's first guest usually doesn't come onstage until a half-hour into the show. Throw in a slightly earlier current.com official announcement ( making it the first candidacy to be announced on-line ), and voila !

Whether this turns out to be the actual timing of Al's announcement or not, I still feel certain that he WILL announce, and soon. He's a smart man, and as he showed in 2002, he absolutely knows how to make a definitive statement on a Presidential run. ( oh dear ... in 2002 it was on the Leno show that he finally said NO ... quiet ... quiet ... be still ... )

Anyway, just a word of advise to those of little faith... you may want to make sure you have a bottle or two of champagne on ice next Thursday just in case. You know I will ! ( If for nothing else, then to drown my sorrows should a Sherman statement be forthcoming. )

But no ... it's going to be a CELEBRATION !!!

25. Well, There Is A Bigger Problem
I realize this whole idea is a stretch, and fantasy, but assume for a second it was really intended to go down this way.

A Writer's Strike would keep him from appearing on Leno, and announcing either his candidacy or his Sherman statement.

28. I think the opposite is true, Jay Leno would be the best
place to announce it, right after they talk about all of Al Gores accomplishments over the past years, then spring it on that mostly Republican crowd.

my two cents..

27. If I was Al Gore this is exactly how I would do it,
the only difference first I would put word out in the INTERNET community that there is going to be some kind of announcement from Al Gore during 30 Rock without saying what it is going to be.

That would give it a day or two to get the bloggers buzzing, and you know what would happen at the DU if they came out and said this a day or two prior to that show, This place would go NUTS!!
