Bush is in the background strongarming the Republicans, and the Dems are hoping for a "goodie" from the Prez to swing their vote.

Bush is desperately trying to avoid the embarrassment of see Mukasey sent packing. He's probably promising all sorts of little bullshit things that mean nothing. You would think that the Dems would learn that Bush can't be trusted. I really would like to see them hold the line here. He's already announced he won't work with them, let him twist in the wind.
