Find a way for Chuck to save face.

Twist Chuck's arm.

Pressure Chuck. Threaten to take away his breakfast cereal. Ban him from the first class cars on the Acela trains. Free some mail order cockroaches in his Capitol Hill apartment.

Take away anything you can until he changes his mind and says he won't vote for Mukasey. If he says 'no' the guy's toast. Schumer has that much influence on this particular nominee.

Do what you have to do.

Win one. This is EASY. The only roadblock is a DEMOCRAT.

7. GwB is not putting forth another nominee---DEMS permit themselves

to look like Wimps once again.

I am no GWB fan, but Mukasey was his first compromise.
Legallistically Mukasey is probably correct to say he
wishes to wait until confirmed to state position on
Waterboarding. Overall if one is fair he is one of
Bush's better candidates.

My point is after a while, this picking a fight on every
tiny issue does not present a good picture to the public.

No Bush fan, but on this one he comes out ahead. He can
make a recess appointment of some RWer.
