Interactive map of all the "dropout factory" schools
Re: the Johns Hopkins Univ. report on "dropout factories" where less than 60% of students graduate.

Below is an interactive map that you can click on to find all the high schools on the list in your state.

I noticed that old Joe Clark's (long since retired) Eastside High in Patterson, NJ is on the list.

1. Fascinating information, thanks.
Not at all surprised to find OK doesn't exactly shine in this category, or that the highest ranked states are the ones shown, either. Actually, I'm a little surprised OK isn't higher than 30th in rank on this scale.

Very sad news for a great many of this nation's children. No marvelous egalitarianism here!

2. my husbands school is on this list. he says its misleading - they're counting transfers out
to other schools as dropouts.

3. That logic is grasping at straws
Even the excellent schools have transfers (families move, etc.). The authors of the study have been very honest about the methodology. What this really means is that if the study shows a school with a 20% graduation rate (as few of the schools in Detroit are rated), then OK, maybe the real graduation rate is more like 35%. That's hardly worth letting the school of the hook.

4. no it's not grasping at straws...in his case it's almost 100% transfers. Not only that
but it was their first graduating class of a small, start up charter school and the school they listed was the wrong campus. If this is accurate research, i'm santa claus.

5. Mississippi's way up there, which doesn't surprise me
They have a system where every little town has an "academy" - a private school for the white kids. So, they have a public school system, but it's still segregated.
