4. Question about the parliamentary wizardry:
How were the Senate Democrats able to force the vote? I thought that the GOP could filibuster to extend debate indefinitely...

I'm figuring the Democrats were able to find a way around the filibuster, but I'm not sure what that is...

7. I think they got enough Pukes to turn so that a filibuster couldn't happen again. n/t

6. Who cares?
It is a meaningless vote designed to satisfy the requirement for "action".

14. I'd say it's not so "meaningless" any more
The GOP has kicked up enough of a fuss to make people start noticing this.

Although the vote may be symbolic, I think it's helped to illuminate the hypocrisy, toadyism and slimy tactics of the GOP.

If they had simply voted against it and refused to get involved in any substantial parliamentary gymnastics, it would be over by now and wouldn't have rated a notice on page 10 in your local paper.

It's taken on a life of it's own.

9. NYTimes: Senate Plans to Vote Again on War Resolution (on SATURDAY)
Edited on Thu Feb-15-07 04:07 PM by understandinglife
WASHINGTON, Feb. 15 -- The Senate will convene in an unusual Saturday session to vote on the same resolution under debate in the House that expresses disapproval of President Bush’s troop buildup, Senator Harry Reid of Nevada, the Democratic majority leader, said today.

“Democrats are determined to give our troops and the American people the debate they deserve,” Mr. Reid said. “We will move for a clear up-or-down vote on the House resolution, which simply calls on Congress to support the troops and opposes the escalation.”

10. dKOS: Senate Vote on House Iraq Resolution May Force Debate
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2007/2/15/16265/2609

<clip>

The Republicans must be scrambling around in a panic at this news. Remember, just two short days ago they were circulating a "Dear Colleague" letter among themselves that clearly :

If we let Democrats force us into a debate on the surge or the current situation in Iraq, we lose.

Is this where we say, "Bring it on?"

yep ...

Peace.
