Mexico's Katrina
Over two thirds of the Mexican state of Tabasco is under water following inundation by tropical storms, with more rain on the way.

President Calderon has sent the Mexican army into the region and food and water is being distributed to the over one million displaced by the floods who are now living in shelters or trudging through the flooded streets as they leave the region...

Link to video sent from the region and how you can help: here.

1. Saw this on our news last night
It's unbelievable. What's worse is that tropical storm Noel did not even reach Tabasco. Noel was such a massive slow moving storm that troughs associated with it created severe damage.

2. The increase in rainfall
is the worry here. It's not that storms are unusual in that part of the world, but the amount of rain is new.

3. Tell me about it
Here in Jamaica, we have had non-stop six day rain twice this month, and more is expected today and tomorrow. All our crops are gone.

5. Yes and thankfully many moved to shelters
In reality, when compared to DR, Haiti and Tabasco, Jamaica and Cuba were lucky. Parts of DR look just like Tabasco and in Haiti they're just reaching some of the marooned villages. Across the regional the banana industry has been severely damaged but that will recover in six months.
Road and bridge damage here from Dean plus these two rain systems has soared past J$1B.

Europe is next as all this rain heads north.
