What legislation enacted today will be awe-inspiring and breath-taking in 70 years?

2. It's still impressive
But just think about how brilliant it was to do that legislation: Take a bunch of prime coastal real estate and keep it out of the hands of developers. Who would think of such a crazy thing today?

3. Today, there is no one who would do that
Before Bill Clinton left office, he set aside (I think) 1 million acres out West.....

Cape Hatteras is awesome, but the last time I was there (1993), I cried all the way down from Nags Head. I hadn't seen it since 1981 and the development shocked me. In the early 70's, it was mine and my husband's favorite place to go. We would drive down from Pgh. on a three day weekend just to be there.

4. You didn't go far enough south
On Ocracoke there's nothing outside of the village. Just miles and miles of deserted beaches, right on the middle of the Eastern Seaboard.

5. Ocracoke was our destination
:hi: It was just the getting there that was sad. The national park campground was closed when we were there. Don't know why.....we took the ferry over to Cedar Island and kept on truckin' down to Charleston.

Is Ocracoke still the same today? I haven't been there since 1993.

6. It is my favorite summer destination.
Edited on Sat Nov-03-07 04:26 PM by smiley_glad_hands
I say I go for the fishing, but it is horrid in the summer. Not that I keep anything I catch, but one day, I'm going to land a big one, and clean & cook it myself.

It is a pain in the ass to get down there with traffic, but still beautiful. It is the poor man's riviera as far as I'm concerned.

On edit: I am no expert fisherman, and I'm not fighting for prime fishing space either. I like to stay between Avon and Frisco.
