Starting with Chimpy, ex-presidents will get SS protection for only 10 years
after leaving office.

Just found that out watching "Forensic Files".

How did I miss that legislation getting passed?

The wimpy, blowhard, bullying crybaby poseur is nothing without his protection.

Anyone else here aware of this new law?

1. It was passed in the late 90's
Edited on Sat Nov-03-07 07:12 PM by Lone_Star_Dem
Let me check and see when exactly.

It was passed in 1997.

In 1997, Congress enacted legislation that limits Secret Service protection for former presidents to ten years after leaving office. Under this new law, individuals who were in office before January 1, 1997, will continue to receive Secret Service protection for their lifetime. Individuals entering office after that time will receive protection for ten years after leaving office. Therefore, former President Bill Clinton will be the last president to receive lifetime protection, and President George W. Bush will be the first to receive protection for only ten years.

10. No need to thank me
My brain is filled with useless trivia such as this which I need to share. If I don't purge it once in a while it becomes so cluttered I can't manage it any longer. As is evident by the fact that I had to look up the actual date. :P

I could almost swear I posted about this here on DU a few weeks ago and knew the date without looking it up. Perhaps it's premature senility?
