You can absolutely not make this stuff up. Mike Shallow caught in a gay sex
solicitation sting.

He's a GOP City Commissioner in Florida AND a realtor.

2. That's what I'm saying.
I hate it when realtors serve on the boards of local communities, because it's impossible to stop the ex-parte communications and the deals which are so common these days. That cross-over in Florida, is complete.

5. So tragic
You'd expect such behavior from Republicans.
But Realtors? Oh, the humanity!!

4. First of all:
Isn't it unethical to be both a city commissioner AND a realtor?

Second: His name is Shallow?

The only mundane part is that he's a gay Republican caught in a sex sting. Those are a dime-a-dozen.

6. Best post ever.
You hit on so many good points. The most important one is that realtors should never serve on the boards of local government because the corruption is complete. They really do believe that it's their job to use their offices to cut deals.

11. In the community where I live
a real estate developer served on the Board of County Commissioners. Several terms. I railed about it for years, making exactly the same points as you have related.

No one seemed to care. I was told it isn't illegal. 'Course the commissioner/developer was a Repug...natch! I live among a lot of brain-dead Bushbots, so what can you expect?

18. This is going far and beyond one developer sitting on the board.
These real estate interests are everywhere. They're in the Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce and even in speciality organizations, like CLEO. They have all the money and all the representation. And they're using it to dominate over the public interest.

13. Isn't that an actual rule for realtors?
I should hope so, anyway. Anyone here in Real Estate able to answer this?

15. The window on complaints about unethical behavior of realtors is
very small - usually only about 120 days from the point of knowledge. Then there's an investigation, and you know how that will come out. Unethical doesn't necessarily equal illegal.

It's a bit like "speak now or forever hold your peace."

24. I did a google search
of Mike Shallow city commissioner, and none of the links or articles said whether he was a Democrat or a Republican.

I'll leave this mystery to the locals.

26. Whoops!
I guess everyone just assumes that any politician caught in an illicit gay sex act is a republican, just like the ones that came before him (no pun intended).

Thanks for clearing that up.

20. I saw those pictures and they scared the crap out of me.
You know what doesn't add up? This is Florida and it's been brutally hot until this past weekend, and none of those men look like they've been to the beach much in the last six months -- and this sting was in Daytona Beach!
