Level Four disaster response. aka international help and the US |
|
this coutry is a proud contry.. but Katrina forced it to admit it needed help.
We may want to explain this in political ways... but there is more... there are changes afoot
Katrina saw the response of over 150 countries to the emergency.
The fires last week in California saw the response of 35 firefighers from the Tijuana Fire Department and ten Red Cross Disaster Services Personnel from the Mexican Red Cross
That is a critical milestone.
With the resources this country theoretically has... that regional response, that I had a small hand in setting many moons ago, should have never occurred, yet it has
That is another marker of our descent into the family of nations as a normal country that at times needs help and the end of American Exceptionalism.
If we survive this government that is a trend I welcome. Now the press needs to show that yes, when we need help others stand able and willing to help us.
Oh and incidentally, if we have Mexican Red Cross disaster boxes handed out at refugee centers, or just ten folks dealing with citizens as refugees, that will slowly change the views that many people in this country have of the country to the south and of foreigners
This is not a small event limited to California. This means that next major flood in Texas we may see Mexican Red Cross personnel crossing the border... and the other way around for the Ameircan Red Cross if Monterrey gets hit.
Border fence? I figure it this way... the xenophobia club will have a hell of a time making that case as these responses become more common.
And I can only hope that this will happen... it will be good for border communities
