'Blank check' seen headed Bush's way, despite Democratic promises to change course in Iraq
Source: The Raw Story

Democratic leaders in Congress are quietly preparing to give President Bush essentially everything he wants to keep the Iraq war going for at least another six months without forcing any change in course.

Swept into power on the votes of war-weary Americans last year, Congressional Democrats have so far failed in all their attempts to curtail Bush's war efforts. As they consider the president's latest request for $200 billion in supplementary war funding party leaders have pledged not to hand over another "blank check."

30. They are totally, completely, utterly focused on the 2008 elections.
Or "focused like a laser beam" as was once said. They seem to be so damned petrified that they might lose a rebubbalican vote by standing up to Their Glorious Leader that they're terrified into inaction.

As if they were going to lure any of the 24-percenters to vote for them anyway. :eyes:

8. Amazing. Truly AMAZING.
Go ahead, moderates, I believe you were saying something funny about how this congress really does work for it's constituents? Right, you know, except on matters that . . . MATTER. Like ending this useless oil grab, for instance. Then they genuflect to the Failure Fuhrer because they're too damned conservative to take REAL chances.

11. Shows what you libruls know!
Okay, Harry and Nancy are handing Bush another blank check, but they have insisted and won on the point that Bush fill in the amount with blue pen instead of a black one. So we're dominating the discussion, changing the rules, and installing a new culture in Washington DC. So there!

15. It's their war, too, now.
It belongs to every one of them who votes to keep it going. It belongs to every one who fails to filibuster. It belongs to every one of us who fails to raise an enormous stink with his/her "representatives."

It belongs to all of us failures, for whom * is simply the poster child.

16. $800 billion so far.
If the revised supplemental defense funds are approved by Congress, it would bring the total amount appropriated to fund the fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan to more than $800 billion. That's close to the price of the Korean and Vietnam conflicts combined.

Weren't we hearing last week from Bush that this Congress can't get anything done. Well looks like he got his check didn't he so apparently they can get something done. We need a list of all Dems who voted for this and get their asses fired!

21. Why don't they just hand the money over in bales of Chinese Yen
since that is where it is coming from, to be paid back by our hapless children. Then Herr. * can just hand it over to his cronies taking his usual 50% cut...no paper work no hassle no paper trail to fudge. That act alone might save the taxpayer a few that is just going to waste to pay the auditors fudging the books. Wake up Murka we are robbing our children of their future by just being too lazy to care. $30,000 debt and counting for every taxpayer in America at the starting gate.

22. Throw Diebold, ES&S and all election theft machines into 'Boston Harbor' NOW!
Really. Electronic voting on extremely insecure and insider riggable voting machines, run on 'TRADE SECRET,' PROPRIETARY programming code, owned and controlled by rightwing, Bushite corporations, WAS the fascist coup. Same month as the Iraq War Resolution, October 2002, and closely related to it. The IWR guaranteed unjust war; the "Help America Vote Act" provided the means for shoving unjust war down the throats of the American people.

These election theft machines are not the only thing wrong with our election system, but they are the 'coup de grace'--the final blow--making democratic (with a small d) change impossible. And until we get rid of these rigged machines...

...'let them eat war!'

25. Honestly, are we surprised by the furthing of the war by the spineless congress?
do we really believe that this war is going to end even if a Dem gets into office?

Come on.

You don't pour gas on a fire if you want to put it out.

Once Iran is out of the way, we will have an uninterrupted pipeline from Baku to turkey. (Now you know why we won't condemn turkey's genocide.)

Of course this whole pakistan thing threw a monkey wrench into the works. But be prepared for that to change quickly. Not necessarily good, just different.

I predicted that mushariff wouldn't make it till the end of the summer, I was wrong, however, I don't see him making it till the end of the year.

More than likely Bhutto has already cut a deal with the US, the people of Pakistan, in a month, will be screaming for her return to power (even though it would be unconstitutional)

I bet the halls at the CIA are a buzz with their recent screw up, by not predicting this little problem with pakistan. They have a way with bucket loads of money to make everyone happy again.

27. "What other choice do you have? So you are going to support the Republicans"
As stated to me by a DCCC fundraiser a few months ago, after I related that I was not supporting the Democratic Party with donations, only individual candidates.

The sports analogy is that the Democratic 'leadership' is playing prevent defense.

Once again, the Dems are proving by their actions how very little difference there is between them and their so-called opposition.

I can't believe Congressional Dems really have such poor negotiating skills. Or do they? I'm tired of thinking about it.
