How is Pakistan different than Iraq? |
|
Hmmm. The military controls Pakistan. The military controlled pre-invasion Iraq
Pakistan is run by a dictator Iraq was run by a dictator
Pakistan has nuclear weapons, Iraq had no weapons and no active plans to get them
Pakistan received aid from the US while a dictatorship Iraq received aid from the US while a dictatorship
Pakistan has strong cultural differences within it, leading to occasional civil wars. Iraq has strong cultural differences within it, leading to occasional civil wars.
Pakistan has attacked its neighbors. Iraq has attacked its neighbors.
Religious issues threaten Pakistan Religious issued threatened Iraq
NOW I GET IT. The only difference between Iraq and Pakistan is that Pakistan has nukes. Because Pakistan has nukes, Musharraf is our bestest biggest bestest friend in the region. Imagine what a good friend to America he would have been if Saddam had nukes!

4. i suspect that some of the |

more conservative elements in Iraq are as conservative as the western tribes in Pakistan.
Another thing that Saddam and Musharraf had in common is they both kept a leash on those groups.

With minimal energy resources and useful pipeline routes PetroDemocracy quotient indicates 'keep lid on pot' foreign policy approach until other resources in region have been 'liberated'.
