3. $3.00 or so in Savannah, GA |
|
I think we will see $3.50 pretty soon if this keeps up. The refiners will not keep cutting their margins as crude keeps going up.

7. $2.93 to $3.03 for regular unleaded here. |
|
It's been creeping up steadily from around $2.65-$2.75 for the past few weeks.

6. a VAST amount of the increase in the price of oil is due to weakness |
|
in the dollar. I am not a mathematician but have read that as much as 45% of the increase is due to the falling dollar. And that seems to have been confirmed whilst in the UK this week. Since my last trip, the price of a barrel of oil has increased from $70+ per barrel to now over $95+ per barrel and yet the price of petrol here has moved almost none.

9. That and speculators trying to push the "bullish" market over the "psychological barrier" |
|
I kid you not - this was in the mainstream news this morning. I think it's about 50-50 here. A LOT of greedy people stand to benefit from $100/barrel prices. Of course, it's likely the only thing which will encourage conservation and alternative energy sources - a nice punch right in the pocketbook.

Seems like a "controlled panic". One of these days we may see a full out panic as governments drop their dollars all at once. I think many are doing so as fast as they think they can get away with it.

11. I'm more concerned about diesel prices |
|
I can control my gas consumption to some extent, but I have to eat. And food prices are up noticeably lately. I don't know how fixed income and low income people will make it through the winter. Very scary.

I got gas at Costco in a Dallas suburb on Friday for 1.63. My husband went on Sunday and it was 1.82. Frickin' ridiculous.

15. The rising prices are going to break me |
|
Over 300 dollars for 100 gallons of heating oil now. Not sure how I will get through the winter. I can't save enough to switch to another form of heat so I am stuck.
The whole thing sucks.
Rises in gas, oil heat and food prices are suffocating the working/lower class.

17. I've been running numbers to determine how expensive gas |
|
has to get, where it will then make sense to dump my current (paid-for) car for something with significantly improved fuel economy. In my case, there are only two (new) cars that fall into that category at the present time - Prius and Civic Hybrid. Based on the number of miles I drive each for my commute, it will probably have to pass $6 per gallon. I'm just hoping the price doesn't shoot up too quickly, and the cars available a year or two from now will offer even better mileage...
