162 To 251 - DENNIS WINS This Round - Hoyer Upset |
|
Edited on Tue Nov-06-07 04:12 PM by kpete
The Vote is pulling even?!?!?!
FIRST RECORDED VOTE: 198-203 at 12:42 p.m. pst
still changing 196 (Yays to table) -215 (Nays to table)12:43 pst
Motion to Table is what would kill it if it passes. If the Motion to Table is defeated, the resolution gets debated. And right now it looks like the vote switches may yet carry the day. True Kabuki going on here.
190 Yays to table 221 Nays to Table 12:44 pst
More repubs than dems vote ‘no’? Is this some sort of Rovian thing going on?
187 to 224 12:46 pst
179 to 241
LOTS OF SHOUTING!!!
170 yays to table 242 nays 12:52 pst
DEMS are switching NOW!!!
Dem 145 y / 75 n / 13 nv Rep 28 y / 163 n / 9 nv
Tot 173 n / 238 y / 22 nv
This is stunning. Absolutely stunning. I think there’s going to be a lot of scrambling around because of this, as everyone re-positions themselves. This is going to make the news cycle. It can’t not make it.
165 to 247 1:00 pst
162 to 251
....................
Doesn’t this exchange just say it all?
Steny: Wants to refer it to committee DK: Then I want a vote recorded on that Steny: ok, nevermind, withdraw my request…
Steny is sweatn’ bullets!

want things the Democrats in congress don't, this is one of them.
The Republicans are trying to force as many Democrats as possible into a position of blocking the measure, but it looks like what they are going to end up with is a debate on the impeachment of Cheney.

For the love of God I can't believe so many people can be this fucking simple. The pukes want the motion to table to fail so that it will come to a floor vote that they will win. And once agian the people on this board will begin the gnashing of teeth and rending of garments as they do every time they lose an obvious vote.

For a bunch of people with an interest in politics, its incredible how little people here understand about the process.
At this point, the best we can hope for is that the vote on impeachment is close (I will be shocked if it was to succeed) so that we can counter their claims of having "won" with our claims that Cheney's behavior was so awful that it came within X votes of getting him impeached.

I hope all you DUers start a thread and do a giant "I told you so"
I was excited when we got control of congress but I'm not suprised about the ill-will found here at DU and other progressive websites. I think personally both Bush and Congress are a bunch of lame ducks because we're so split down the middle. It's a shame this is what politics are all about. I just hope and pray we can hold on to congress and get the White House because perhaps we can get some work done without butting heads 24x7 with an asshole like Bush.
This is what it is

They feel that they could be stigmatized in the same way that the Republicans were over the Clinton impeachment.
You are watching the ugly side of politics, which has nothing to do with justice and everything to do with winning, unfold before your eyes.
In a nutshell, the Republicans think that if they can attach impeachment proceedings to the Dem name in 2008 they may just have a shot at winning. The Dems think they may just be correct.

|
When the repubs knew there were enough Dems vote to table the bill, they began changing their vote to make the Dems to look bad, the Dems caught on and the thing snowballed and vote switching increased on both sides. Neither side wants the bill to be debated, imo, they just don't want to be the ones held accountable for it being tabled.

I have never seen crazy ass game playing on the house floor like this ... this back and forth shit is nuts. You know, impeachment is serious business and I don't think this game playing done by both sides is doing us any good. I could have predicted that the Republicans were going to pull this switch voting crap and I wonder whether the Democratic leadership even were pro-active enough to figure it out. The Dems seem to be switching votes now, not sure if it was the intended strategy but I hope this motion wins in the end. :kick:

|
I wish we had the votes and the leadership to actually do it and not just some futile gesture to satisfy the frustration that we all feel. As is, we'll lose the vote to impeach and get slammed from both sides for being "weak and inneffectual" I hear people saying "the Dems need to all fall in line just like the republicans do!" Great, but part of that is having the discipline to not bring things up unless the leadership is going to take it to the mat.
