|
Edited on Tue Nov-06-07 04:55 PM by LSK
Is the Committee obligated to act on it?

9. I can't answer that :) |

But Steny did it. It was even mentioned on CSPAN during the vote to send it to committee.

10. I think that's why he did a point of personal privilege |
|
Because he knew it would never get the floor otherwise.

8. The resolution is stone dead. |

Conyers was nearly panicked when he declared that it was not going to come out of committee.

14. Conyers? Here is part of the text from an LA times article: |
|
"House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers Jr. (D-Mich.), agreed that it was not in Pelosi's interests to advance the articles of impeachment. "If she were to let this thing out of the box, considering the number of legislative issues we have pending ... it could create a split that could affect our productivity for the rest of the Congress," Conyers told Fox News."
This quote has been on cspan, fox, msnbc and all over the I-net, all afternoon.

12. I believe a "discharge petetion" can be used |
|
I read this and the Freeps want this to happen(wouldn't surprize me at all if they did)
.....A discharge petition is a means of bringing a bill out of committee and to the floor for consideration without a report from a Committee and usually without cooperation of the leadership.
Discharge petitions are most often associated with the U.S. House of Representatives, though many state legislatures have similar procedures.
They are used when the chair of a committee refuses to place a bill or resolution on the Committee's agenda; by never reporting a bill, the matter will never leave the committee and the full House will not be able to consider it.
A successful petition "discharges" the committee from further consideration of a bill or resolution and brings it directly to the floor.
The discharge petition, and the threat of one, gives more power to individual members of the House and usurps a small amount of power from the leadership and committee chairs. The modern discharge petition requires the signature of an absolute majority of House members (218 members).

Do you think there's any chance for a discharge petition? Or that it would be a good idea if there were?
edit: clarity
