Because we are protecting the Shiite government that is friendly with Iran it makes sense that Iran has no reason to attack our soldiers. In fact as Sam Seder pointed out, Iran may be supplying weapons to the Shiite forces working WITH US soldiers.

Iran wants the Malaki government to win and for us to leave. Thats when Iran really wins!

Iraq is a lose, lose situation for the US. If we help the Malaki government win then Iran wins and we lose. If we pull out and the Sunni's take back control, then Iran loses and we lose because things go probably go back to the Baathists party.

Seems to me, neither outcome is good for us but the lesser of two evils is for the Sunni's to take back control and pull the rug out from under Iran. The best way to help that happen is for us to leave! Sooner or later I think Saudi Arabia, Syria and Iran are going to become more fully engaged in this conflict. Saudi Arabia and Syria will not want to see Iran have too much influence over Iraq and Iran feels the same way about it being ruled by the Baathists or Sunni's.

No mater what happens it's a huge quagmire!

The US is bound to fail in Iraq or Iran. Why ? Because the whole world wants it to lose. Its Imerial agenda is plain to every country; and no country likes it. Regime change in Afganistan, Iraq then who next ? Not only Syria, Iran but any country if it has a way and if it can go away without any consequence will help the insurgents. Everyone hates what the US is doing but most are afraid to talk.

Even other small Imperialist do not like what the US is doing. Because, first, there is a conflict of interest in some region (Russia vs US in the old Soviet republics etc), second the large fish might eventually eat the small fish.

As the US is seeing that the era of its technological and economic dominance is ending it has started the use of The-Jungle-Rule, protecting its market and source of raw materials by force (no more free market era is coming). America has started to do what Nazis tried to do, dominate the world. The only difference is that, so far, America has tried to give it some coverup, the fight againest terrorism. It has, so far , put its military in dozens of places arround the world; more recently, in a number of African countries. Developing countries have to stop this before it is too late.
