Edited on Fri Nov-09-07 11:49 AM by Atman
Just heard on MSNBC. But hey, don't worry, listen to Bush...the economy is GREAT! Go shopping! Ring up some fresh debt for the New Year!

1. Hey, all you bloodless CEOs! GOP is bad for business!
Funny how we keep telling the fools that but they keep having to learn it again and again and again the hard way, dragging us all down with them in the process.

I really don't like them very much.

5. I was at the local mall twice in the past month and it was EMPTY.
More empty than I'd ever seen it. Also noticed that our favorite restaurant was empty when we ate there this week. It used to be a must to have reservations even during the week. Only about 20% of the tables were full the other day.

I think people don't have a lot of extra cash for things like shopping at the mall and eating out. I know that prices have affected my spending drastically. A meal out is now reserved for a big occasion rather than the frequent treat it used to be.

7. Last Saturday, I went to a normally VERY busy mall in the area.
Found a parking place right away (that in itself was a sign) and when I got inside, it had about 1/4th the crowd it normally would have on a Saturday.

I asked a salesperson if people were spending (this is in a well off area) and she said no; her sales had been steadily dropping since mid-summer.

9. I've never purchased anthing from The Gop or Old Navy, either.
Never will. Everything from Old Navy has their logo all over it anyway...they'd have to PAY ME to be a walking billboard for them. That's part of what's so screwy about our consumer culture. The retailers are getting suckers to pay them to be advertisements for them. And people do it!

11. i used to buy jeans at old navy until i found my favorite brand are actually made here
or they claim they are, they cost more but i'd much rather buy those. as for shirts, most of mine these days are for candidates and those shirts are union made.

8. I was a loyal Gap customer for a couple of decades, but QUIT a few
years ago when I could no longer buy jeans that fit me (yeah, I know, at 5'4" and 125 lb I was SO abnormal), and they all had such low rises that I felt they were inappropriate for me at age 45. I'm a medical professional and uncomfortable dressing like a cheap whore.

They thumbed their noses at average-sized, middle-class, middle-aged women and now they are whining?????

10. 5'4" women are short for Gap clothes.
Their fit-models are obviously tall, because every size is designed for about 5'7" woman. The plus sizes, the skinny sizes, are all for taller women.

12. At 5'4" I am EXACTLY average. They need to start being honest with
customers and marketing themselves as a store for TALL women so we AVERAGE women don't get sucked in the door at all.

19. Sure. It's fine for the above-average height ladies. Good for them.
Last time I tried on a Gap dress, the waist was on my hips, and it was baggy on the collar. It was obvious the dress was designed for a tall person.

14. and their stuff is too short for me
at 5'9", the only women's pants that are long enough for me are to be found on the internet and in catalogs. Otherwise, it is the men's dept. for me, where pants can be purchased at different lengths!

Remember, one can take up too much length, but there is nothing one can do if the pants are too short. Time to get out the needle and thread.

17. I was in there a few years ago and a cute college girl wanted a sweater that DIDN'T bare her midriff
The sales person patiently explained full sweaters weren't "in" that season.

Who needs that?

15. Why pay retail?
You can find Gap and Limited clothes at consignment stores, usually in great condition, for a fraction of the store price!

I actually like Gap jeans when I can find mid-rise ones. I'm 42 & also refuse to dress like I'm trying to look like a teenager.

16. I'm glad The Limited is losing money
I used to work for them ages ago and it was when I found out how heartlessly manipulative their marketing is. They forced all their "associates" to buy and wear their clothes. At a discount, but still they insisted they wear the whole outfit from earrings, belts, socks, watches, and the layered look that consisted of two teeshirts under a blouse with a sweater and believe it or not two pairs of socks of different colors! It was during the time when their clothes were used exclusively in the movie Fatal Attraction and in various TV sitcoms of the time. Their "associates" had to spend their minimum wage earned from part time jobs entirely on Limited clothes which were made by company owned factories in, guess where, undeveloped countries. Retail is a racket.

:puke:

20. Wonder Where The Cool Kids ARE Buying Their Clothes This Year??
Well, I haven't shopped at the Gap or the Limited in several years.

But, then, I never was one of the cool kids.

So, can some of the really cool kids here tell us where they are buying their clothes this year??

Please??
