I'm watching the Al Gore bit.

Have Romney, Giuliani or McCain been at the receiving end of their humor, lately?

Just wondering, TIA.

Happy Saturday, all. MKJ

1. Al Gore is a big SNL fan.
Back in 1999 I saw a clip on him on a local Ohio station and Gore mentioned his love of SNL. Of course that's been nearly a decade ago.

5. Well
They have pretty much ripped GHWB and GWB both a new one on a regular basis. -- About the current crop of candidates I don't know - but then Gore isn't a current candidate..........

4. The thing is, when you are writing comedy, you reference people
who are a locus of public attention. It's not about party but about who people will recognize most easily because comedy depends on very quick connections in people's head. So, if they're hitting on Democrats, that's actually a measure of how much Democrats are recognized.

6. I've never found their political satire
to be very smart or insightful. Whatever the ideology of the target.

It's always about superficial perceptions instead of political content, like * is dumb, Gore is a nerd, Clinton is a sex-maniac, etc. They just play up the popular stereotypes because they are safer and easier than talking about hypocrisy or the issues. If you want satire with substance, TDS and Colbert are where it's at, or would be if it wasn't for the strike.

The only exception I can think of is Phil Hartman's classic Reagan skit. Here's a partial clip (I couldn't find the whole thing):

8. I haven't watched in awhile, but they sure used to.
Some of their Reagan bits were just GREAT.

And I saw one that slammed B*sh right after he was elected-
it was actually pretty PROPHETIC, in that it had him
destroying the Country in record time.

10. That was a remarkable skit...
had the country in flames, hammer and sickle over "New Texas"...that he had shot Cheney(!)...unbelievable...been looking for it for a while on Youtube but to no avail, at least lately.

11. It's HARD to parody a PARODY
republicans are hard to mock, because everything they DO or SAY is already a mockery..

12. How Do You Think The Show Became Popular???
Chevy Chase as Ford, Akroyd as Nixon, Dana Carvey as Poppy Booosh, Phil Hartmann as Raygun, Will Farrell as boooshie boy. Sheesh, Lorne Michaels is a big Democratic supporter.

I rarely watch SNL now cause I'm "not cool enough" for most of what I see. One thing for certain, I sure missed the weekday comedy shows last week. Here's hoping the corporates cave in soon to the WGA!!! Those shows have helped in turning a generation against booosh and the Repugnicans.
