EDWARDS--"It is time to give those entrenched interests that are standing against America hell."
John Edwards is getting tremendous response in Iowa. His message is resonating with Iowans across the state, and in many cases receiving standing ovations. Some excerpts from his remarks below:

http://wcco.com/iowawire/22.0.html?type=local&state=IA&category=n&filename=IA--Democrats-Farmers.xml

"Edwards also slammed corporate agribusiness and lobbyists, and said ``the taxpayers should not be subsidizing killing the family farmer in America.''

To rousing applause and a standing ovation from some of the hundreds of people attending the summit, he said America's family farmers ``need to give these people who are driving you out of business hell.''

Edwards has made reaching out to rural Iowans a central part of his campaign, and says that unlike the other candidates seeking his party's nomination, he grew up in a small town and knows the challenges rural Americans are facing.

``Sometimes I think (the other candidates) think of farmers and agriculture and rural America as a place you fly over when you're going from New York to California,'' he said."

"Edwards has been the most aggressive in attacking Clinton in recent weeks. "It is time for us as a party to stand up with some backbone and some strength," he said. "We do not believe in allowing lobbyists to write the laws of the United States of America."

Speaking at a Farmers Union summit in Des Moines this morning, Edwards lamented the plight of family farmers, asserting, "We need somebody to stand up for you. Somebody to fight for you. Somebody who will fight against those who are trying to take your way of life away from you," Then he added, "I walked into courtrooms for 20 years where there was a whole army of lawyers on the other side representing corporate America. And I went into that courtroom, and I fought them, and I beat them, and I beat them, and I beat them again. And I will beat them as president of the United States - you can count on it."

1. He needs to start with his own economic class.
I like Edwards, and I'm not saying he wouldn't do it. Just making it clear that's where his priorities need to be.

2. How Much Clearer Could He Be? I Guess No Matter How Many Thousands of Times He Says It, ....
... there will always be those who claim they never heard it.

Just not a valid criticism of Edwards.

4. Clearer? His present "economic class" wasn't always his class...
He worked his way into it...and still recognizes where he comes from...He's actually fighting against the corruption and indifference of his present class...

He's got a lot of guts.

5. Absolutely correct! And it scares those in power to face him....
It sure would be a breath of fresh air to have someone in the Oval Office who would say NO to the moneyed special interests who have bought their way with the previous Administration.

I imagine being told NO would be a slap in the face.

There would likely be a standing ovation across America!

16. I'd be one of the first people to be on my feet
I'd be leading that ovation. John Edwards and Dennis Kucinich are the only two candidates who have not been eliminated from my list. I've been holding out for Al Gore but it's not looking good for a possible candidacy.

9. What makes you think his priorities won't? He and DK are the only ones likely to want to

3. Progressives Need To Remember, The MSM Will NEVER Cover Their Candidates Like Their Chosen Ones...
If Edwards is elected President, Edwards would be in direct conflict with maintenance of the present system that supports the MSM.

THE MSM has an AGENDA, and they are not going to promote anyone with air time who opposes that agenda.

6. IF $$ from Corp Lobbyists Buys Influence, AND HRC takes $$ from Corp Lobbyists, What Does THat Mean?
I am still waiting for HRC to say that she will not be swayed by all the corporate millions $$$ she has received.

Does anyone believe that? She can take their $$$ and then 'bite the hands' that feed her?

14. It appears that Edwards' message has changed.
His strategists have done a good job. I sincerely hope that the rhetoric his campaign has chosen to embrace evolves into actions mirroring the message... should he be elected. Let's fire up the masses John! I'm all for it.

15. Edwards message has never changed.
Edited on Sun Nov-11-07 05:11 PM by AmBlue
It's always been the same: fighting for the little guys-- WE, THE PEOPLE. It's just that his message is finally breaking through the MSM blackout, despite their efforts to keep a lid on him.

GO, JOHN, GO!!!!

21. I Love this line -

"It is time for us as a party to stand up with some backbone and some strength," he said. "We do not believe in allowing lobbyists to write the laws of the United States of America."

I want my country back and Edwards is the one to do it! K&R for Edwards!
