Chris "Tweety" Matthews does not suffer from low self-esteem -- disses Jon Stewart, Brian Williams.
Media Bistro: ...we just read in the Washingtonian that Chris Matthews thinks that the reason Jon Stewart went after him on "The Daily Show" was because "Stewart was threatened by his book and his success," according to Kim Eisler, who spoke with Matthews. Said Matthews: "Ironically, he was really doing what I suggest in my book...He was fighting up."

MSNBC'S Matthews Slams 'NBC Nightly News'

Moving into the same building as NBC doesn't seem to have made MSNBC's Chris Matthews any more of a team player. The Hardball host was a phone-in guest last Thursday on Morning Joe, where a discussion of Hillary Clinton's performance in the latest debate abruptly gave way to a Matthews monologue about the declining value of NBC Nightly News:

MATTHEWS: Now you have to understand that this program we're on right now and the program I'm on in the afternoon and especially Keith, we are financing this network.

MIKA BRZEZINSKI: I hear ya.

MATTHEWS: Get the message. We are the future...

MIKA: Yeah!

MATTHEWS: And if you think the future is Nightly, fine, because it's a brilliant broadcast and Brian does a brilliant job-

JOE SCARBOROUGH: Oh my god, here we go...

MATTHEWS: ...but the ages of the people that watch those shows are primarily concerned with pain relief, okay? Pain relief. So if you want to go into the pain relief business, that's sure going to be your deliverance from what we do and that's going to be where you want to be. Well, that's fine, but that is in fact going into an area that's not profitable.

And Matthews's rant, which prompted uncomfortable looks and nervous laughter from Scarborough and Brzezinski, wasn't his first riff on the subject. Back in 2004, on his own program, he panned all three network news broadcast, saying, "It seems like pain relief is the No. 1 theme of the nightly news... They're beyond Cialis and Viagra. They don't even bother."

Network envy, anyway?

2. hell, one day the pharmaceutical industry will come out with a megalomania
pill for those who wish to become 'sucessful'...and will advertise it without embarrassment. I promise...in fact many years ago I predicted they would advertise Kotex unabashedly on teevee!

3. Jon Stewart could make more money publishing a coloring book
why would he be jealous of Matthews. When was Matthews MC'ing the Oscars. I think Stewart has a ten no, make that 100 times better show than Matthews.

4. omg Stewart "Threatened" by Matthews, not f*cking likely. How many copies of
"America the book" were sold? Matthews should either stop drinking or start.

6. I disagree -- I think that he DOES suffer from self-esteem problems.
I saw the interview with Stewart, and I thought old Chris came off a real idiot. He was insulted that Stewart disagreed with the premise of his book. He really did seem to have a problem dealing with disagreement -- imagine how he'd deal with rejection!

8. Tweety needs to worry about Hardball's audience
He's getting thumped by Lou Dobbs and even Glenn "F'ing" Beck is beating him in that time period while Countdown is the only "news or political" show getting ratings on MSNBC.

Check this website if you want to track the ratings. http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/

9. what a twisted mind!
He was here inthe MIAMI BOOKFAIR televised thisweekend on C-span 2. He was talking big time about how he opposed the war ... which was a shocker to me since i always saw him dribble his spit while smiling his support for Bush's war. He also said some anti-Bush thing. Anyhow, someone in the audience asked him when did his turn around come about. He gave the questioner the most absolute none-answer of any non-answers i have ever heard, and he did it with the most serious face anyone has ever had while lying their *sses off.

11. Matthews acts like a hypo-manic, it's common on TV, they dont have
self esteem issues. It is why they are so good at blowing all that hot air. They "get high on life".
