ATTN DU Donors: We're having some delays processing donations from Paypal |
|
For some reason Paypal's automated system that processes our donations is taking a long time to notify our server that payments have been received. Normally, this notification is sent virtually instantaneously, and our server processes the payment and gives your account on DU credit.
It appears that the delay is currently anywhere from 5 minutes to an hour, and we have no idea why it is taking this long for Paypal to notify our server.
It also appears that in rare circumstances, our server never receives the notification for a donation, and the account never gets credit.
You will know if your payment was properly processed if you receive a DU private message from Skinner thanking you for donating to the fund drive.
If you donate to the fund drive, and do not receive this PM immediately, please be patient. If, after an hour from the time of your donation, you have still not been given credit on DU and received this PM, please contact me and I will give you credit manually.
We apologize for this inconvenience.
Thanks

2. Welcome to my PayHell world. Make sure you're not... |
|
...getting any "suspicious activity" happening on the donations. Though, after the Andy thing, I'm sure you're onto it.

actually, ebay is very slow tonight, so that has something to do with it. at least it was slow, seems fine now.
back before ebay bought payhell, they were actually HORRIBLE, and were locking funds right and left, and getting sued. I was a part of all of that mess. They had locked 1200 in funds of mine for 6 months before finally giving it back once THEY were assured for their own belief that no fraud was going on b/c a buyer didn't pay $30 to insure the exp. item, and it got ruined, they said, and amazingly, paypal locked my funds despite the ebay invoice showed insurance was declined.
I got like 15 bucks in the lawsuit, plus my money back. comical.
I'm sure they're still doing things like this to people, but it doesn't seem as rampant as it was.

12. Be patient, folks. it takes Homeland Security a long time to run your b/g checks thru Paypal. |

17. PayPal is processing the OLPC orders |
|
The One Laptop Per Child organization ("$100" laptops) is doing the Get One, Give One donation now (started on Monday). Hopefully that means a lot of folks in the US and Canada are buying one of the machines to donate and getting one for themselves. Otherwise, it's just PayPal being they're usual sucky selves.
BTW, this will be the only way the general public can get one of the OLTP machines anytime soon.
