NOVA - PBS intel design and evolution
I have heard about this program, but wow, I am impressed. On replay, if you have the chance, please watch it.

the Dover PA trial on whether Intel Design was science is the underlying issue.

1. Absolutely fantastic show.
Amazing how these "christians" lied, cheated and stole to try and push creationism in the schools.
And then the judge who wrote the decision gets death threats - priceless! What great examples of God's love. :eyes:

9. I don't know what motivates these extreme fundamentalists, but it
sure ain't love. The scene with the science teacher (who was religious, taught Sunday School etc. but was opposed to teaching ID) describing how his neighbors told him they loved God, then called him an atheist and an f'ing asshole pretty much sums it up.

15. "christians" lied, cheated and stole..."
I am shocked that "christians" would lie, steal & cheat.

Is it alright to do all of that for Jesus?

11. Then you'll probably recognize the film clip they use from it.
Was that Spencer Tracy as one of the Lawyers?
And one of the Darren's from "Bewitched" (Dick York?) too!

10. I thought it was Berkeley, let me double check...

Yeah, who'd have thunk it.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phillip_E._Johnson

Phillip E. Johnson (born 1940) is a retired UC Berkeley American law professor and author. He became a born-again Christian as a tenured professor. He is considered the father of the intelligent design movement, which criticizes the theory of evolution, and promotes intelligent design, as an alternative. Johnson also denies the predominant scientific view that the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is the sole cause of AIDS (see AIDS reappraisal).<1><2> The scientific community dismisses both notions as pseudoscience.

17. That part about the bacterial flagella was amazing!
Too many part of that documentary to name that even taken alone, are worth seeing, but for those with limited time right now, here's the basic out-line:

First half, they lay out the arguments and show the science it's all based on, second hour is mostly the trial stuff, but if you have 2 hours, watch the whole thing, you'll be amazed how easy science is when it's presented well. :hippie:

18. For adults too!
I learned a lot of new things. I was particularly fascinated by how modern genetics has bolstered the theory of evolution. My younger son saw that particular part and curled up on the couch with me, too involved in the story to go to bed (I've promised to order a copy so my children can see the whole thing).

It's particularly interesting to us because my parents live near Dover and this has been a major topic of discussion for the past several years.

14. Fundies can't polish that turd of ID
It was painful listening to the oxycontin-addicted board president.

He and his nut-job allies cost the taxpayers of that district over a million dollars for their religious intolerance of science.

I commend the judge for his ruling; there are some principled Republicans that still believe in the Constitution and rule of law.

22. Yup, it's one of the Big 10 "Thou Shalt Not's"
I don't remember which of the 10 Commandments it is, but it say "Thou Shalt Not Bare Fault Witness..." Which means that I you lie in order to harm or gain advantage over someone else, you are committing a Sin.

24. great show
Im not religious, but I always thought that if there WAS a devil, that these fundy asshats would be the ones that had been "tricked" and would be actually worshiping Satan. Their anger, hate, self righteous, destructive behavior would be the perfect result of the trickster god.

27. Which is really funny
because their own bible tells them that: "Beware of wolves in sheep's clothing." 'Course, they never actually READ their own bible.

P.S. Locrian was my favorite mode -- love that semi-tone right at the beginning -- confuses the listener.
