Poll question: Are you in favor of waterboarding detainees suspected of terrorism? |
|
In light of the recent poll showing a significant portion of DUers in favor of electrocuting vocal dissenters I think it's time to do a human rights inventory. ref: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_boarding

3. Not just no, but Hell No! |
|
It only creates more terrorists. Anyone surrendering to U.S. Forces goes into it knowing they'll be tortured, and more than likely unceremoniously shot and dumped. Waterboarding is bullshit.

(I voted no. This is a silly poll, IMO. I think any "yes" votes are, much with the Code Pink/taser one, opposing a stupid poll)

20. because you think a poll question is "silly", you'd vote the opposite? |
|
Seems to me, that's a pretty silly approach. All these polls are optional, you don't have to answer the ones you think are "silly." (Since we can only do one question at a time, a "prefer not to answer" option is kind of redundant.) When you misrepresent yourself to pollsters of any sort, push polls and thinly disguised marketing ploys included, you're not helping anyone, not even yourself. Any amusement derived therefrom tends to be dwarfed by the consequences.
If you were choosing between Bush and Kerry in 2004, that might seem like a "silly" question too, but I bet you didn't vote for Bush!

Of course, the survey is still young, perhaps too young to be statistically significant. I certainly hope so, anyway.

13. Part of the problem is |
|
the 'suspected of terrorism' point (not that I'd want waterboarding to be used, period). Just as Iraq was suspected of having WMDs and it turned out they didn't, what happens when you waterboard an innocent person?

19. technically, since you're trying to get info, EVERYONE you waterboard is innocent |
|
when you waterboard them. In other words, its not a PUNISHMENT, its an INTERROGATION method, so every prisoner who is waterboarded is not known to be guilty of anything when they are waterboarded.
now, they might confess to something they did or didn't do in order to stop the torture, but at the point it is decided to waterboard them, they obviously have no evidence at all or they wouldn't need to torture.
The whole idea of torture is to force a confession through pain. guilt or innocence is really irrelevant.
