I Have Wtinessed the War on Christmas |
|
I walked into my neighborhood grocery store this last week (A Texas chain). Up close and personal to the entry way was a display of toys for Christmas, war toys; plastic armored hummers, camouflage army jeeps, plastic military personnel, everything imaginable on a four sided display.
I picked up my few items and headed for the quick check-out line. I mentioned to the cashier that I understood she was not responsible but that the display of war toys didn't fit into the "Peace on Earth" symbol of Christmas and that I found this disturbing. She innocently misunderstood my message and stood on her tiptoes and looked over her shoulder to the display. She said, "I don't see any Peace on Earth!" (I think she was looking for a Peace on Earth display sign.)
I replied that I didn't see any either and carried my items out of the store.
This is the real war on Christmas.

1. What? You don't think that feeding military propaganda to our children is... |
|
Christ-like? Shame on you! Haven't you heard? - War is Peace.
Now bring those recruiters into our inner-city grade schools in baker's dozens. We must prepare the fodder! There are a few wealthy families whose lives depend on it!
Merry Christmas!!!!

that you are not the leader in the War on Christmas. I will defend your right to your own personal beliefs with every ounce of my being. The War on Christmas started many years ago and the leaders are the corporate elite.

10. Already? But we're still digesting turkey. |

That's more than a war on Christmas. That's the war on peace.
Sometimes little kids are evil. And sometimes little evil kids don't grow up. They like to do the things George Bush did as a kid. Blowing up frogs. Shooting people with his bb gun. Trashing his college rental house, and then not paying for the damage. But even worse, some like to make war. It's like heroine.
Peace is boring. And what's worse, it takes brains. And sometimes even effort. And even harder yet, forgiveness. And equally as difficult, abandoning the addictive craving of greed. All kinds of things that revolve around peace are just a pain in the ass. And it's highly unprofitable.
War is exciting. It's easy. It is addictive. It's profitable. You can take whole societies down in just a fraction of the time and effort it took to carefully construct them. One can become godlike as people cower in the shadow of one's threat. The toys are fantastic. Everything is higher quality than all other products ever made.
The truth is very different than how it appears. Peace is actually more productive and profitable and enjoyable, in the long run. War costs magnitudes more, despite how the initial flow of goods and money go.
I love stories like yours. I wonder if the checker gave it any thought afterwards. It's pretty seldom that people are brave enough to speak out. You really deserve credit for that.

the genders at a very young age. Shameful to encourage killing for boys and body shapes that are not possibly human (Barbie) for girls.
I'll have to remind my crazy religious wingnut family members that the message is 'Peace on Earth' not 'War on Iran/Iraq.'
