Adios John Howard
Enjoy your last day in office.

http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2007/11/23/2098699.htm?site=elections/federal/2007
<snip>
One day out from the election, two new opinion polls are pointing to a Labor victory, although the margins are considerably different.

There is some hope for the Coalition, although it is mainly bad news for a Government still dealing with the fallout over bogus election pamphlets.

An AC Nielsen poll gives Labor a massive 14-point lead, after preferences, but a Galaxy poll has the ALP leading by just four points - the best result for the Coalition this year.

The polling comes a day after damaging revelations a Liberal campaign team handed out a hoax pamphlet in the marginal seat of Lindsay.

3. Howard might lose his own seat (district)
which means that he can't even be a member of the government. Over here all ministers (including the Prime Minister) have to win their seat in parliament to be eligible to serve as a minister (or secretary as you guys would call them).

Howard's actually polling rather poorly in his own seat, which is one reason his campaign has be foundering - he's had to spend a lot of time just keeping his local voters on side. Maxine McKew is an awesome opposition candidate and some polls have her beating him.

The former ABC television journalist is ahead of Mr Howard 51.1 per cent to 48.9 per cent after preferences, a swing of 5.2 per cent with 69.8 per cent of the vote counted.

If Mr Howard loses his seat he will be the first sitting Prime Minister to do so since 1929.

Addressing a crowd of cheering supporters , Ms McKew stopped short of claiming victory in Bennelong but said tonight has been a wonderful night for Labor.

"This has been an amazing night

Hahahah - looks like Howard will lose his seat. One of his Ministers says he'll win with the postal votes. These losers are priceless.
