Amazing that millions will stampede stores today... |
|
But the same amount wouldn't come out to stand up for this planet. Ask someone if they want a coupon to Walmart and they are all over it. Ask them if they would be willing to stand in front of a bulldozer seeking to build a coal fired power plant that will spew pollution that kills this planet and makes children sick...how many would even care? Al Gore is right, and it is the same thinking I have. You can't change this world until you change the consciousness of the people living in it. And you can't change that consciousness until you change what influences their actions... BIG MEDIA. I'm still wondering when that change is going to come if people are too busy shoppping to care. Quite a conundrum.

If it does not directly and immediately effect them, it is not worth the waste of their valuable time. Sad. As I had posted before, recently a town near us voted in their new mayor, he won with a TOTAL of... 17 votes!

in my little corner of the world there hasn't been any advertising to stand up in front of a bulldozer, so I have not shown up. There has been a deluge of advertising urging me to show up at 4 a.m. at any number of stores, but I'm not clear about the door prize. I must admit, curiosity has gotten a hold of me, as I did actually consider getting up in the middle of the night to go and see what the hoopla is all about, but I don't think the hook was firmly planted..or maybe..due to family anomalies.. I am immune to the insanity of the holidays. It's all kind of sad..the lengths people go to retain some non-existent status of success through their purchasing prowess..but I have my own delusions of what quantitates success.
