...in speaking truth to power (and I think he does, thought not as well as Dennis), do you think the corporations will "let this happen"?
What have we come to as voters when we make our voting decision based on what we think the corporation will do. We can obediently show up to vote for the corporate candidate. What does that say about our integrity? We might not be able to outsmart the corporations, but casting a vote for someone we truly believe is the right man for the job at least allows us to look in the mirror and see someone who refused to sell out.

about the remote possibility that if Ron Paul became the Rethug cadidate DK might consider being his running mate should he be offered the job. http://www.alternet.org/blogs/video/#68745I'm not sure how I feel about this. Given, the chances of seeing this ticket is near zero, I haven't decided whether it changes my opinion of DK yet.

61. When Kucinich Was Asked Point Blank |
|
about sharing a ticket with Ron Paul, his only response was "I Like Ron Paul, Thank you". Saying he "like" Paul is a far cry from saying "I'd Like to Run With Him". Aside from the war and maybe the fact that they'd both like to do away with the Federal Reserve (since it's unconstitutional), they are diametrically opposed on virtually every social issue. I am pretty sure Dennis is bright enough to know this, and the possibility of a Kucinich-Paul or Paul-Kucinich ticket is nothing more than a pipe dream for some.
For me, I wouldn't mind seeing a Kucinich-Feingold ticket maybe.

that under the Constitution the VP is a totally worthless, piece of shit office that under normal circumstances does fuck-all? Now I don't think either man would return the office to its original intended lack of importance, but it certainly won't be as strong in the future in the as it is right now. I think we're assigning a little too much importance to the office. What does it matter who the vice presidential candidate is? What if Kucinich did accept the position? What would that matter? Further, it's not going to happen. There are a lot of things that I would do if monkeys flew out of my ass, but that isn't going to happen so what does it matter what those things are?
Paul is not going to win the nomination and even if he did he would not offer the position to Kucinich, so this speculation is worthless.

|
Edited on Mon Nov-26-07 02:35 AM by blackops
Call me cynical, but I don't expect any future VP to give up the powers aggregated under Darth. Nor do I expect our Dem leaders to do anything about it, as they are prepared to take the throne.
Not that these dark powers are worth anything to someone who is trying to do good, but I don't expect anyone who is trying to do good will be elected (selected) or be permitted to serve their full term.
In full disclosure: Voted for Kucinich in '04. Will vote for him in '08.

that the P does not want it to have. Cheney didn't wrestle power away from Bush rather Bush handed it over because he was clueless about what to do and he let one of Daddy's guys run things. The dems will never elect such an imbicile as president so the VP will go back to being a quasi-ambassador.

248. I think it simply is not possible to hold on to the power. |
|
When the power of the executive has waxed, historically it has inevitably waned. These things are cyclical. Eventually Congress starts taking power back. Secondly, Cheney's power doesn't stem primarily from his office; it stems primarily from his position in the military-industrial complex. It also stems from his personality and his way of operating. Cheney is, for lack of a better word, evil. I don't think whoever will replace him will be able to maintain the level of power simply by the fact that he or she will not be Cheney. Cheney quite simply is immune from the law. Think of how many egregiously illegal things he has gotten away with, including committing treason by compromising the CIA's Iranian anti-proliferation efforts and getting drunk and shooting a man in the face. Who else in this country is capable of that?

Only "Democrats" can lose the 2008 election. Only about 2 or three times in the last 100 years has there EVER been a comparable LOCK on an upcoming Presidential election. 1932 and 1964 come to mind. The complete catastrophe - in foreign policy, economic policy, and civil liberties - that has been the Cheney/Bush adminstration afford the Democratic Party with an almost unparalleled advantage. And they KNOW IT. That's why there's such a frantic, desperate attempt to exert Corporatist control over the Democratic Party. That's why Murdoch is being 'generous' and why the coffers of 'selected' candidates overflow with corporate, wealthy, and lobbyist support.
One would have to be deaf, dumb, and blind to not see it, imho.

49. Kucinich's stances on Gun Control are a big looser and things like this |
|
Obama and Kucinich differ on bin Laden hypothetical
ATLANTA, Georgia (CNN) — Asked what they would do if they knew where Osama bin Laden, would be for a twenty minute period. Sen. Barack Obama and Rep. Dennis Kucinich gave significantly different answers to the hypothetical situation.
“I don't think that a president of the United States, who believes in peace, and who wants to create peace in the world, is going to be using assassination as a tool,” Kucinich said.
“I think that Osama bin Laden, if he's still alive, ought to be held to account in an international court of law,” the Ohio congressman said, adding that if the United States were to engage in “assassination politics,” it would inevitably foster assassinations of U.S. leaders.
But Obama disagreed saying, “Osama bin Laden has declared war on us, killed 3,000 people, and under existing law — including international law — when you've got a military target like bin Laden, you take him out,” he said. “And if you have 20 minutes, you do it swiftly and surely.”
– CNN Associate Producer Taylor Gandossy
He would be toast in a General Election saying something like that. Sorry, that is just a fact.

Furthermore, beginning a sentence with "sorry" in the manner you have is arrogant and condescending. I personally regard the abuse of such words, which SHOULD convey civility and human compassion, to be OBSCENE when employed essentially as a rhetorical "fuck you"!
I can only infer intentional provocation in the use of such dismissive, insulting rhetoric.

But now the idiots running the Florida legislature have made this state completely irrelevant. Now I'm voting my conscience, for the best candidate. Undoubtedly Kucinich.

and he has it again in '08! The only candidate I can vote for with a totally clear conscience. If enough of us ignore the "conventional (read corporate msm message) and vote our best interest and conscience, Dennis may surprise and terrify a great number of powerful people.

That is what Kucinich is and that is what we have to be to stand with Kucinich. We can't be afraid of the Corporations. We can't be afraid the media will discredit him, We can't be afraid of the naysayers, We can't be afraid that he's "too short," "not presidential," that he's "unelectable, "that he'll be assassinated if elected, or any other unsubstantial "reason" not to support his candidacy.
Kucinich is courageous, he's been right (as far as I am concerned) on ALL of the issues. He votes the way he speaks which is not something I can say about the other candidates.
If you want a president who understands that he represents THE PEOPLE, then be courageous. Give Kucinich your support. And send his campaign a donation NOW.
Yes, James. I'm with you!

he's the only candidate that i agree with almost 100% on all the issues, and the only candidate as anti-war and pro-impeachment as me. the dlc/corporatist dems are all about "keeping their powder dry" while crimes against humanity and against the constitution are allowed to continue. i find that revolting so i'm not going to be helping them with that in any way by voting for them. i prefer my votes going to a candidate that is principled.

but... does it matter if he is still silenced in the media?
what about making up a poster and each one here posts it in their nieghbourhoods or stuff mailboxes. Something along the lines of:
(pic of Kucinich) Do you know who this man is? you probably don't and here is why...
or Why won't they let this man speak to you?
then a line about the mass media cutting out his voice to the public and a short list of the things he stands for that most americans do as well.
short, simple and direct.
we cannot rely on the CNNs, we know that. It has to be in the streets. the word must get out tho and every little bit helps, you tell/recruit one person, and so on and so on and so on.

110. Quoting Gore Vidal from another thread... |

"'Don't waste your vote,' they whine in unison--as if our votes are not quadrennially wasted on those marvelous occasions when they are actually counted and recorded."
I don't intend to waste mine ever again. I'll vote for DK in the primaries and, if necessary, write him in next November. I've had it with wasting my vote on pre-selected corporatist suck-ups whose interests and mine are so unrelated that they've disappeared over the horizon line. I've been holding my nose at the polls for decades and I simply won't play along any more.
Keep in mind that, in civilized countries, DK would be a left-center moderate with mass appeal. Only in the US, and I suppose in other countries with electorates composed of undereducated half-wits and status quo apologists, could someone who stands for people and against corporate domination be viewed as an unelectable radical.

I have been lurking here at DU for a couple of months now. Thanks to the people on this site I have learned a great deal about Kucinich. If you watch the news you would only think that Sen Clinton and Rudy were running for President. I like Sen Clinton but, Kucinich is a much better fit for what I believe in. The man is amazing he actually had the balls to not only talk about impeachment but, actually do something about it.

most 2nd amendment voters(as i'll refer to them) see ANY attempt to ban weapons as a first incremental step, and will fight them all tooth and nail.
they WILL vote.
kucinich WILL NOT, and CANNOT be the nominee of the democratic party.

Edited on Mon Nov-26-07 10:25 AM by redqueen
That's the hyperbole.
And yes, I know it is a fact, which is why I clarified it to you, since I thought maybe you were confused. I guess you weren't confused and you were just being unclear for... whatever reason.
And by the way, please feel free to stop shouting. I can read regular text just as easily as ALL CAPS. :)
Apparently you think these so-called 2nd amendment voters make up a good portion of the segment of the electorate that would even consider voting for a Dem. I don't.
Good luck supporting the candidate of your choice! :hi:

(and there are A LOT of them)
it's ALSO all those non-democrats who would otherwise stay home on election day that would be motivated to go to the polls to vote AGAINST the gun-grabber.

Politics is the art of compromise, of course, but man oh man am I tired of groveling!
NAFTA? I was against it. DOMA? I was against it. Welfare reform? I was against it. The Telecommunications Act? I was against it. And yet in each case I supported a candidate who was for it.
I still remember the uncomfortable maneuver I had to do to support Kerry in 2004 (and I worked hard on GOTV) even though I was 100 percent against the illegal Iraq invasion. It was a horrible feeling, but I felt I had no choice.
I'll be proud to cast a vote for Dennis. A better world is possible!

204. There is NO RISK in voting for Kucinich in the Primaries |
|
If you like him best then vote for him. Worst that would happen is: a Democrat wins. If you are making a partisan calculation and want to avoid the worst possible candidate, you are already doing so by voting Democratic in the general election. The primaries are our time to stop being simply partisan and help turn our true desires into action. After this, it is Dem or bust. Don't throw that opportunity away on a "compromise." It is the only chance we get in this voting system.
There is even less than no risk in donating to Kucinich. If you have them, vote with your dollars. Unfortunately, he needs it in this system that he wants to change in a fundamentally positive way.
Also, remember the comment about politicians: "Don't vote for them. It only encourages them." Whom would you most want to encourage?
I say Kucinich. The only liberal running. The only Progressive running.

206. I don't agree with Dennis on every issue |
|
but we agree on the only important one- defend and follow the constitution. That gives him my vote AND my write in for the general election, and my partner's as well.
For everybody who's calling him a gun-grabber: you think any gun we can buy will protect us against someone who doesn't believe in the constitution? I can't say of any other candidate, 'they would act against their personal views because "we the people" say to.' I can believe it of Kucinich. And that's enough to ensure me my right to bear arms is safe with DK.

219. Don't just vote: attend your caucus and stand for Kucinich |
|
In most states, the presidential primary election is a pointless beauty contest: the delegates to National, where the nominee is actually selected, will be apportioned by the caucuses and not by the election. If all you do is vote, you will NOT be making a difference.
Please, attend your caucus and stand for Kucinich.
