Who ARE You People?
Don’t get me wrong. I’m all for accommodating religious and cultural differences, acknowledging that not everyone has exactly the same perspective on every issue, even making life a bit clearer for the common-sense-impaired.

But when it comes down to coddling the abjectly stupid, or those who seem to spend every waking hour looking for something to be offended about, I have to stand back and yell, “What the f*ck!”

Who are you people who think shopping mall Santas should refrain from saying “ho, ho, ho” because it might be construed by female passers-by as an insult to their sexual activities? Shouldn’t such people be kept out of the malls because stupidity might be contagious, and we’ve already got enough of that going around?

Who are you people who report to parents of pre-schoolers that their children’s tendency to nuzzle against your chest is a blatant sexual advance? Shouldn’t such alleged ‘adults’ be kept as far away from innocent children as possible? Just how repressed/sexually confused do you have to be before someone decides that maybe the ‘problem’ lies not with the kids, but with you?

Who are you people who think they’re being persecuted as Christians if the local department store wishes you a Happy Holiday instead of a Merry Christmas? Maybe I’m just out of the loop, but I haven’t seen any TV commercials advertising Christians v Lions events, nor read any reports about anyone being hauled off to prison in the dead of night after being rounded-up outside the local church.

Let’s get real, people. The fact that your local stores are wishing all and sundry, regardless of religion, a joyous holiday is a matter or embracing everyone, and not a personal affront to you or your beliefs.

And by the way, encouraging you to spend money you don’t have under a banner of Merry Christmas flying over a manger scene in the parking lot is not meant to keep Christ in Christmas – it’s meant to keep you shopping in their store. And as long as your credit card transaction goes through, they don’t really care if those are Christian dollars or pagan dollars making the cash register go ca-ching, ca-ching.

Who are you people who think that a group of Muslims praying in an airport terminal before take-off are obviously terrorists about to take down the flight? Did it ever occur to you that if a group of people had such plans, they wouldn’t be drawing any undue attention to themselves before boarding?

Honest to God, to Allah, to Buddha, to all that is holy, should people as dumb as you be allowed to fly without a psychiatric professional accompanying you from the terminal of departure to your final destination – and shouldn’t a straight-jacket be part of your carry-on luggage?

Who are you people who believe there’s such a thing as a Gay Agenda? Do you honestly believe that every homosexual belongs to a secret society, one that meets regularly in order to contrive ways to force you, a heterosexual, into their lifestyle?

Have you looked in the mirror lately? And if and when you did, did you actually surmise that the gay agenda will never be fully realized until a gay man or a lesbian can openly brag that they got you into bed? Think it through; you’re probably less attractive to them than the last heterosexual man/woman you took home when the bar lights flickered, someone yelled “last call”, and you didn’t want to go home alone.

Who are you people who think that Harry Potter is the gateway book to adopting witchcraft as a religious belief, or The Golden Compass should be banned from school libraries because it was written by an atheist?

No, don’t tell me – you’re probably the same people who think that the earth (despite all scientific knowledge to the contrary) is 6,000 year old, that evolution is a myth, and the concept of global warming is being promoted by corporations that own weather networks.

I rest my case – and yet, I feel compelled to ask: Have you actually read these books before deciding to condemn them? More to the point, have you ever read any book?

This is only speculation on my part, but I’m figuring you people are the same ones who actually need that warning label on the electric hairdryer that specifically states – lest there be any confusion – that it shouldn’t be operated while showering.

You’re also probably the same people who think that Support the Troops is a bumpersticker and not something that should be backed up with actual support, that freedom of religion means your religion and not anyone else’s, that flag-burning is the most pressing problem our nation currently faces, that “hot coffee” doesn’t actually mean “hot coffee”, so feel free to balance it on your lap while driving … oh, and that ”Not to be used as a step” warning at the top of a ladder is merely a suggestion, not meant to be heeded by the brain-dead who can later sue the ladder manufacturer on the basis that said warning did not contain their name specifically – therefore, how were you supposed to know they were talking to YOU!?!

I consider myself to be a reasonable person. But when I am expected to accept the asinine, incoherent ramblings of people who belong in long-term mental health care programs as part of the fabric of society who need attention, protection and validation, count me out.

In those circumstances, I can be as intolerant as the next person – who, like me, is probably sane.

And the whole Santa Claus/merchandise aspect of Christmas was heavily frowned upon. But nowadays it seems that the fundamentalist's are actually embracing the business/shopping aspect.

I have to admit that I've been quite incoherent lately, and this stuff is driving me to that state. I realize that stupidit is a constitutionally guaranteed right, as is the right to expose it frequently. I'm running very short of patience, however.

6. These People Should Come With Warning Labels
My daughter attended a Christian school through second grade. Their thing was to keep Christ in Christmas. Many of her classmates had never had Santa visit and there were no signs of ole St. Nick anywhere. Now these same people want Christmas splattered everywhere and think Happy Holidays is blasphemy. They are scary people and should be avoided at all costs. I love to ask them how their Advent study is going. I get a lot of blank stares. They don't have a clue that besides celebrating a birth (which probably happened in the spring) it's a time a great reflection and self examination to grow in faith.

The Greek letter "chi" (X) has been a symbol of Christ since the 1st century. "Xmas" is not some cute new spelling for morons, it's a very old spelling that morons have forgotten the origin of.

The "Chi-Rho" page from the Book of Kells, a Gospel manuscript written in Ireland around 800 CE. The Greek letters form a monogram of the first two letters of the title christos and was an ancient shorthand notation for Jesus.

Of course media stereotypes actually exist. They just are not as numerous or as representative as the media, or the DU, likes to portray. However, even in real life, we have a tendency to see other people "in the simplest terms, the most convenient definitions".

Both my parents hold many of the screwed up views listed above... You can't reason with them either, because they don't make any attempt to be logical or rational. If you do back them in a corner then they often times resort to some weird religous shit. Which is funny, considering I would hardly consider them religous.

12. "Do not clear grass from chute while mower is running"...
has long been one of my favorite stickers.

I actually knew an individual that did that, and was lucky he only lost two finger tips.

Lapses in intellectual acuity are somewhat common, particularly when the task is banal or redundant.

But these people that truly DO go out and look for an "issue" are exceptionally nauseating. We get plenty of that here in Nebraska. Some actually believe that all of the hoopla about the holidays is little more than satan opening the gates to hades and dumping souls into hell by the bucket load.

Tolerance, one of the great tenets in virtually every religion, never seems to get out of the starting gate. Maybe it's just me, but I tend to avoid religious that espouse hate, war and intolerance. I leave in the dust, those who speak so highly of a religious sect that is based on love and wisdom, yet somehow refuse to love or use wisdom.

I will wish people a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and basically a nice day to all I greet. I will show warmth and generosity of the soul. I will remember that there are people out there being beaten, hungry, homeless. I hope to be in a position to aid them when and if I meet them. If I can make one persons life just a little happier, a little better, a little warmer then I've accomplished something.

I can't change the world, but I can lend an ear when it is needed, to either a friend or a stranger. I can buy a sandwich and share it with those who haven't eaten in days. I can offer my coat on a cold Winter's night to someone who has left a violent household. I can stand up and be courageous when the underdog is being hammered away a day and night. I can protect those who are too frightened to fight back against the tempest.

I can do a lot...I can't make much of an impact on the world scene, but I can make a huge impact on one, two or twenty lives. We all can.

If you come to Colorado, try to avoid the northeast part. Unlike the rest of the state, there seems to be something in the air that causes strange things to grow; nasty little things, all fussy-like, kinda smell like the stuff they grow mushrooms in, y'know? Half of them explode in the presence of people with brown hair, brown eyes and brown skin; the other half shoots their smelly little spoors at people who threaten marriage by not being able to get married. Apparently, they think there isn't enough cow poop to go around. . .

I had a toaster that had, on the cord: "remove cord from power supply before servicing or cleaning". You KNOW, someone had to try something incredibly stupid for that to written...:)

Darwin Awards were designed for people like this: "...after being shocked by live wires while changing a light switch, George ********, involuntarily urinated. The urine pooled near his bare feet and flowed into the connector of the extension cord he was using to illuminate the job. Mr. ******* was found unconcious with minor burns by his daughter. He is doing well, recovering in St. Mary's Hospital, a hospital spokeswoman said."

:D

Just glad he's recuperating and not being buried.

You did hear about the famous case in Chicago? A non-english speaking immigrant was way too intoxicated for his own good, so he relieved himself on the "el"s third rail (which for those who do not know CHicago, is energized with 40,000 volts, with an amperage big enough to move a series of EL Trains) It arced, killing him. His family sued and won for failure to warn.

My law firm at that time had a great internal contest, trying to design the symbol to warn against peeing on the third rail.

13. Who are you people who actually believe the Santa Ho Ho Ho story
;)

The story started in a Rupert Murdoch rag in Australia, and the only attribution for the contention came from an unnamed Santa (who, the article claimed, resigned his post in protest). Even though the company in question denied the story, some other news sources (such as, surprise, Fox News) picked up on the story. It was the perfect story for the right-wing noise machine, because it combined two of their favorite topics: "the war on Christmas" with "political correctness run amok."

Aside from the quibble with your first example, though, I think yours is a fine post. :)

21. Of course there is a gay agenda
Its called equal rights and acceptance for all gays and lesbians. I can understand why you would ridicule the idea of a "secret society" and all that. But there most certainly is an organized effort going on, to ensure that basic human rights are extended to all Americans, regardless of their sexual orientation. And there's nothing wrong with that effort. And there is also no need to pretend that the organized movement does not exist. This is still America, and folks still have the right to band together to work together on common problems.

89. There isn't really an organized movement among gay people.
Gay folks are as diverse as everybody else - because we are everybody. Look at the Log Cabin Republicans, for instance.

Some gay people - along with many straight people - support equal rights for gay people, but many more gay people are not particularly active in promoting equal rights at all. Many gay people never contribute a dime or speak up for equal rights in any way. Many gay people even vote Republican.

Saying that there is an "organized movement" among gay people is like saying that there is an "organized movement" among black people.

echoes my thoughts but was said better than I could state them.

By-the-way....NEVER stick your hand in the moving blades of an electric mixer. It really hurts and bruises the hell out of your hand.

(NO, I didn't do it on purpose. The bowl slid, I grabbed for it and tangled with the blades instead of the bowl.)

27. Nobody gave a good attempt at saying who these people are.
Edited on Mon Nov-26-07 01:11 AM by FREEWILL56
These people are the dumbed down and the greedy that elect the likes of bush, cheney, foley, etc. They sit in judgement of you while their own deeds and judgements are farther off target that after fuming you sit there in wonderment if they aren't from another planet. They are easilly lied to if they think it is a cause they can relate to and are willing to do more than lie in their causes. The Bible I believe addresses these people, but they don't see that the Bible warns the good people about them as they haven't a clue they are doing evil. They think being a good Christian is looking over the Bible to judge everybody else by and does not apply to themselves. But it is a guide for them to improve themselves to be good enough for heaven and is a guide on how to pass God's judgement.
To put it simply they are greedy power hungry hypocrites that aren't going on very many cylinders and there's alot of them. Do know that this does not just come from the religious right either as there are those without that particular religion that have their own pitfalls and are every bit as bad. in summary they are assholes.
edit to add:
This was not meant to be just about religion, but seeing it as the #1 source of hypocrisy today I keyed on it more.

31. I see those people every single day. I feel there are way too many of them. They watch Fox News and
think it is really news. In my night history class I sit next to one of "them" who is about 30-35 years old. When the instructors mentioned that the United States ranked about twentieth in modern nations from the best for low infant mortality, his response was, "Where did you get such statistics". I told him to look it up, there are numerous sources. His reaction was typical to what I have seen by "them". I told one of "them" that the poverty rate dropped during Pres Clinton's time in office, but has rapidly grown since GWB took office. His response was, "Where are you getting such nonsense." To "them" if it ain't on Faux it ain't true.

I fear the great American experiment in democracy is dead. It was fun but I don't see getting the fascists back in the box. Precedent has been set that the Constitution can be violated without outrage. BushCorp made it look so damn easy too.

But I am in for the long haul. As a great American (Margret Cho) once said, "I have decided to stay and fight". Please just tell me when it's time.

35. Fuck. YES.
Excellent rant all the way around.

Thank you for saying this in particular:

"Let’s get real, people. The fact that your local stores are wishing all and sundry, regardless of religion, a joyous holiday is a matter or embracing everyone, and not a personal affront to you or your beliefs."

...

Limed for truth.

Narcissistic as I am saved so I get MY reward in heaven, Winning souls (hounding until conversion) all so I will get MY big reward in paradise..or the Armageddon horror, All the Jews must return to Israel so 3/4ths of all Jews will die,and the survivors convert to christ.. all this horror will rain down on Earth so Jesus will come and take ME to heaven where I get to be a priest king and get my reward!!!!!

Who's evil?

132. It's so predictable
As soon as one of them accuses you of something, you've pretty much figured out what they've been up to.

A relative of mine loves to take black and white positions on things. As soon as I point out that there's a bit of grey area in the middle, she accuses of saying it's white (or black) and that I'm engaging in black and white thinking.

Typical example:

A: All wives should be housewives.
B: Some women are unsuited for house work but are valued scientists.
A: You're saying all women should be scientists. Why are you constantly saying black is white?

53. Very thoughtful.
We have been having long discussions down here in Oz about the "ho, ho, ho" politically incorrect saying. Everyone I have talked to thinks the reasoning is dumb.

But, my favorite, on a very serious note: "Have you looked in the mirror lately? And if and when you did, did you actually surmise that the gay agenda will never be fully realized until a gay man or a lesbian can openly brag that they got you into bed? Think it through; you’re probably less attractive to them than the last heterosexual man/woman you took home when the bar lights flickered, someone yelled “last call”, and you didn’t want to go home alone."

I'm not sure what thing in your life inspired you to write the above paragraph but I can tell you, as a gay woman, that it was absolutely spot on. As my African American female friends would often say, "you ain't all that, girl." Just because I enjoy being intimate with another woman doesn't mean I am attracted to just any old woman. But, someday, the gay agenda will be realized, eh?

56. An explanation of "who they are" that's a little sympathetic.
They are people who have had the courage, the initiative and the intelligence beaten out of them.

Sometimes physically, by parents who read the Bible too much, but more often by teachers and fellow students and educational systems that reward mediocrity, obedience and groupthink. The educators just want a nice quiet school, and because students with questions are troublesome and require extra work, they just tell them to shut up and stay seated.

I'm not going into the commercialization of culture, since a lot of people on the left love that topic. But I want to draw attention to the squeaky wheel that they ignore, the supposed treasurers of thought who were supposed to provide them mental defenses against that sort of thing. I was probably one of the last class of students to be encouraged to identify propaganda and beware of people making appeals to my ugly, unaccountable, primitive desires for sex, attention, affection and prestige. All the rest - the educators decided to allow kids to be manipulated like that, so they could wrap up class with no objections from the little bastards they had to teach.

When they grew up, they were ruled by fear. The primary goal of Republicans is to find new things for them to fear. Which is why a good Democrat would provide a modern-day version of Roosevelt's famous inaugural speech. I just wonder if any of the Democratic candidates would be able to pull that off; I know at least one of them wants to encourage "fear itself" for her own controlling needs.

One VERY HOT DAY in Downeast Maine; at an open air take out/picnic spot. I was fiishing my meal with sweat running down my face ( unusual in this area) I watched a Father ( from Mass.) & his 5 year old son loading up the car after their meal. The Kid said "Daddy can we go swimming now?" The answer? "It's TOO COLD to go swimming today son." ???????? Translation? "I'm not in the mood to go swimming."? "We have to keep driving to reach our destination."? That child, learned to distrust his own sensory receptors!

I knew another father; he lied like he breathed....... ( And his family history bore out the reasons for that )
But one time when his 7 year old daughter lied, he punished her by putting cayenne pepper on her tongue!

... It's sad and/or silly when people complain about nothing -- and it's even more sad and/or silly for one to complain about "some one else's trivial offense taking," which is apparently what you perceive the OP to be doing.

So what is it, or how should we describe it, when one complains about one who complains about one who complains about nothing, which, by your logic, is what you would seem to be doing?

162. That was kind of my point in a previous post here.
They think the Bible is not for them to improve themselves, but is a God given guide for them to judge others by even if they themselves are doing the same thing as those they judge. This is hypocrisy and my point of the Bible talking of the hypocrites as they don't realize or care that they are reading about themselves. Welcome to DU.

71. Enjoyable to read but...
sadly, Nance, you're always, if you'll forgive me, "preaching to the choir."

You are, however, one of the many posters who tend to put many of our thoughts into words and do it well.

In my family my father ignores politics, my mom is bible-befuddled, one sister is gay and somewhat paying attention, the other sister is "one of them."

Somehow I am not "one of them." I'm not exactly sure why or how that happened. When I was in school we were taught about the history (whether there was falsehoods in it I don't remember) of the United States and about our government, what a democracy is. Is this what saved me? Why didn't it work on so many others?

When my sister had her children I thought I knew how they would end up, just like her. I've been wrong though. The oldest is not "one of them." The second oldest is very close to being "one of them" but I think her intelligence will win through eventually. The others are too young to say just yet but I have hope. Hope that I'll nudge them enough to keep them thinking.

Thanks for the post Nance, if only to give us something to keep us thinking!

These so-called weekend warrior X-tians are just nut jobs. If you wanna follow the Bible totally then you should starting with Thou Shall not kill...alot of X-tians forget that one thats why we kill in the name of god, condemn being gay, but yet the woman still goes to church after her monthly cycle when according to the Bible she is unclean and must not enter the church for 7 days I think it is? It's just so amazing to me that in all my life unfortunately I have not met a TRUE X-tian that I can call one. Sad so sad.

82. And now I keep hearing Bacharach and Costello

Who Are These People?

Lyrics by Burt Bacharach and Tonio K.

Who are these people that keep telling us lies
And how did these people get control of our lives
And who’ll stop the violence cause it’s out of control?
Make em stop

Who are these people that destroy everything
And sell off the future for whatever it brings
And what kind of leaders can’t admit when they’re wrong?
Make em stop

This stupid mess we’re in just keeps getting worse
So many people dying needlessly
Looks like the liars may inherit the earth
Even pretending to pray
And getting away with it

Who are these people that keep telling us lies
And how did these people get control of our lives
And who’ll stop the violence cause it’s out of control?
We’ve got to make them stop

Who are these people that keep telling us lies
And how did these people get control of our lives
and who’ll stop the violence cause it’s out of control?
Make em stop

See things really have to change
Before it’s too late

from our having emptied out the psych wards 30 years ago and nobody wanting to pay anymore for long-term mental health commitments. Now, THAT was a false economy.

Now that I think about it, I can recall a lot of manic patients raving around the ward about their wildly paranoid fears and their grandiose plans to take over the world, but I don't remember any of them shouting and screaming out any liberal doctrines. They were all channeling Joe McCarthy, never Gene Debs.

93. According to Einstein, "Only two things are infinite,
the Universe and Human Stupidity, and I'm not sure about the Universe."

If you really stop to think about it, Jesus had the same problem, back in the day, with the overbearing, pompous and presumptuous Pharisees and High Priests (how familiar would they look to us, if we could take a time machine back for a peek?), who were so inseparably linked with the self-serving Imperial Authority.

Your tag quote hit it on the head, those who believe God's Sole Purpose was to '...die and make them the boss of everyone else'

That psychological mechanism -- along with all of the other projections, pretensions and self-delusions associated with faux religiosity -- is the eternal bane of genuine spiritual growth.

95. People dressed up as Christmas Trees at airport
Last year, Sea-Tac airport (Seattle) had a big brouhaha because they put up Christmas trees. A Rabbi made a reasonable request that if they had Christmas trees, they should also have a Menorah. It all blew up and there was lawsuit talk; the trees came down and went back up...blah blah blah.

Anyway, this year the display is white winter wonderland. It is very seasonal and holidayish and offensive to no one. Also, I saw it and it is lovely. But the right wingers are out there on the sidewalk dressed up as Santas and Christmas trees carrying protest signs that say "Christmas is an AMERICAN tradition!"

Who are these people is right? I would say that the destruction of the true meaning of Christmas with obscene consumption flanked by "Christmas" decorations is an American tradition.

104. What do you mean, "offensive to no one"?
Haven't you been listening to Talibangelicals all over the country? The Sea-Tac airport display is extremely offensive to Christians, as it does not shove the Christian religion down the throats of air travellers. Proof, it is claimed, that government agencies are persecuting Christians and pushing the agenda of Godless atheists and other heathen. :eyes:

It shouldn't be offensive to anyone but yes, the right wing Christians evidently are offended. I am a Christian and I am not offended by the Sea Tac display but I was offended by the protesters dressed like Christmas trees claiming Christmas is an American tradition!

The Golden Compass is being banned because the author has publicly stated that he wrote the books to subvert Christianity. It's not merely because he's an atheist. I think that's a big difference, not that I think banning any book is a good idea.

Either prudes, people who are looking to get rich by suing school districts, or people who are worried about school districts getting sued.

"Who are you people who think they’re being persecuted as Christians if the local department store wishes you a Happy Holiday instead of a Merry Christmas?"

McCarthyists. The same people who blathered on about a War on Christmas fifty years ago, only from the Communists.

"Who are you people who think that a group of Muslims praying in an airport terminal before take-off are obviously terrorists about to take down the flight?"

"Who are you people who believe there’s such a thing as a Gay Agenda?"

People who are very insecure about their own sexuality.

109. hot coffee
sorry but i have to explain to you about the "hot" coffee. this is the story. i believe the fast food place, mc donald's i think, did a study that showed if they raised the temp of the water, higher than was deemed safe, then they could get an extra cup of coffee out of every pot. they warned employees of the danger, the company was warned of the danger but not the public. many memos were presented showing the warnings and their ignoring them. the public should have been advised of the change in temp just like the employees. now her injuries: totally burned labia, clitoris and all surrounding tissue. i agree she could have found a better place to put the cup but the higher temp made the lids fit less securely. mc donald's put profit before human safety. i know these facts because i got them from the one of the lawyers on the case.

supposing this was a kid who was carry this "hot" coffee, with an ill fitting lid, to his mom and it splashed in his face???!!!!!

116. kids had been injured at McDonalds by the overly hot coffee
Edited on Mon Nov-26-07 02:29 PM by Hamlette
if fact, McDonalds had 700 claims filed against it for its scalding coffee. McDonalds knew the coffee was too hot yet continued to do it for more profit.

On edit: you'll note, if you bother to read up about the case, that she was NOT driving when she spilled the coffee. She was attempting to take off the lid to add cream and sugar in the parked car. The coffee was so hot, 180 degrees, that it caused third degree burns over 6% of her body. For profit. I submit she was not acting stupidly.

You know, you sort of blow your whole argument about how stupid people are when you use the hot coffee case without knowing the facts. Google it, there are many sites like this one:

When someone uses the coffee story to point out stupidity in people not knowing the facts. Fact when she complained to McD's employees that it was burning, they stood around laughing (because of the location of the spill) instead of helping. This caused even more damage. Having just endured a second degree burn over most of my lower leg I can not even imagine the pain of a third degree burn. My burn would have been worse if my husband stood around laughing at my stupidity in dropping our Thanksgiving Turkey. Instead he administered first aid. She was an elderly woman that required skin grafts because of the severity of the burn. Please...Please do not perpetrate this myth. Hot is not the same as scalding or boiling.

They kept their coffee very hot to maintain the flavor and also to make the aroma stronger in their restaurants because it increased sales (i.e., patron comes in, smells coffee, thinks "gee, I wasn't going to get a coffee but now I'm craving one" and buys coffee.

I'm glad someone else brought this up - I was going to if not.

Keep in mind, I think that there are often ridiculous judgments in civil trials but we also need to keep in mind a few issues:

1) Who is writing (spinning) the story about the lawsuit and what is their agenda?
2) While juries can often be manipulated, they are also often very thoughtful in their deliberations and take their duty very seriously. If the jury found in favor of the plaintiff, it is worth checking into it before buying the corporate media spin.
3) What were they asking for and what did they get - in this case she had originally only asked for reimbursement of her medical expenses. McDonalds was a dick about it. The jury was so disgusted with McDonalds that they awarded her MORE than she asked for in the lawsuit.

I'm always amazed at our willingness to buy what the corporate media tells us if it fits with what we want to believe but not if it doesn't fit. Either the corporate media lies or not. If the former, mistrust ANYTHING, even if you like what you hear. If the latter, where have you been for the past 30 years?

152. Thanks for answering my question and welcome to DU.
In retrospect they should just get a chemical equivalent for a potporri mix ala coffee flavor rather than super heating the coffee that is wasting extra electricity and creating a burn hazard. Now I'm not a coffee drinker, but my other half is and when it's left on high it evaporates it faster (hence the strong aroma I guess) and makes for less product to sell and if it doesn't sell soon enough it becomes abit rank in the pot. Maybe some like that, but I think there are better ways to get people to buy it than super fried coffee. They often make new pots of coffee because of this and I've told my other half to make less so that it doesn't need to be thrown out as much. Does that make sense?

Edited on Mon Nov-26-07 03:10 PM by DFW
They are the 26%

They are the loud hosts of National Hate Radio and Fox TV, the ones who
get paid millions a year to butt in and not let anyone complete a sentence,
especially if they happen to be able to think for themselves.

They are the ones who go to church not because they believe, but because they
feel a need to be seen there, and crave recognition from their neighborhood, and
see a chance at social one-upsmanship, some good gossip to use against a neighbor
who won't play along, or one who has been rumored to vote the "wrong" way.

They are the money who directs the tone of the MSM, their "news" and the dumbing
down America in general. They are also the ones too lazy in their minds to question
the spoon-fed propaganda, and prefer to regurgitate it rather than draw their own
conclusions.

They are the ones who have second residences in places where pollution, poverty and
hunger are known only to the ones that serve them there, and care therefore not one whit
what and how badly they pollute elsewhere.

They are the ones who profit from the status quo, and from the donations they garner from
their talent for instilling fear in the hearts of those who follow them--fear of something
awful happening if they don't cough up funds they can't afford to the silk suit that's asking.

They are the ones who will vote for Huckabee, McCain, Thompson, Giuliani (if need be), even
if it means they will suffer greatly if their vote becomes decisive. They are the ones who
will never vote for a Democrat, even if it gives them a chance at bettering their material
situation personally, and helping our country on the world stage. They are also the elite few
who will benefit materially in a big way from a Republican president: those who profit from
a relaxing/elimination of environmental and consumer regulations that hamper mass fraud and
contamination, regulations that protect the small consumer from both polluters who don't clean
up, from insurers who don't pay out on legitimate claims, from Defense contractors who use no-bid
contracts to fleece the treasury and provide substandard arms and armor to those troops whose
lives depend on them.

Their shrillness is louder than their 26% indicates, and they have almost all the microphones
and TV cameras.

We may have bigger numbers, but we ignore them at our peril, because that's not just WHO they
are, but because that's WHAT they are..

I, like you, have come to the conclusion that there is a vast majority of morons roaming the streets of America. Sometimes they hide in plain sight, but nine times out of ten, they are in your face whining about something. Some claim they are being persecuted as Christians because the words Merry Christmas is not being seen or said to them is certain stores.

In fact, I just read a story today about a Christian group putting together a Naughty or Nice list of places to shop. The naughty stores had removed the words Merry Christmas for their adverts or didn't say those words to their shoppers. The nice stores did include Merry Christmas in their adverts and did say those two magic words. It's ridiculous.

We have truly become the United States of the Offended and it doesn't take much with some people.

Still, I have hope that not everyones choo-choo has gone chugging around the bend. While we may bicker and fight, I believe most people here on DU are some of the most intelligent folks on the net.

Thank God we have this place to come to. Some days its the only way I keep my sanity.

These are the people that frequent "The Darwin Awards"....many times posthumasely...

155. Yes, Darwin in reverse as I picture
a bunch of Homer Simpsons going around doing as their pResident says and go spent their money by going shopping. They would be in the same mode as Homer when he wants a donut, but saying, "Go shopping, spend money. Buy, buy, buy.". Hell, they might as well go shopping as any dollar being held onto will devalue.
