Lerk's warning of things to come
in just a few years look how much civil liberties have been eroded under bush, and he's working like blazes to accelerate that process. quick, almost as if there is a looming deadline he has to meet.

I consider the current situation critical and warn that if not stopped.....:

1. an ever-increasing intolerance of minority groups (gays, etc.)
2. a demonization of any domestic opposition (making "libruls" and left-leaning liberals to be equal to "traitor")
3. a subsuming of all branches of govt. under a central control
4. use of intelligence forces against own citizens to root out dissent.
5. Arrogant belief that preemptive occupation is in the national interest.
6. A plan to overtake an entire region (in WWII, it was europe, africa, etc.--the neocon agenda STARTS with the middle east)
7. Insidious and systematic propaganda institutionalized to lie to the public and manipulate elections
8. massive bombing campaigns with no concern for citizens or property
9. The coopting of "Christianity" as an excuse and a justification for leadership excesses
10. An acceptance of torture and abuse of prisoners as justified.
11. Considering enemies as less than human and therefore undeserving of humane treatment (see #10)
12. Empty patriotic rhetoric engineered to ostracize noncomformists and glorify brutish acts.
13. Elitism and racial, ethnic, political or religious "purity" seen as ideals that justify the removal of personal liberties of those "not like us".
14. Self-destructive govt. structure and policies that doesn't look at long term economic health.
15. Waging war with inadequate resources, ending up by drafting older and younger soldiers out of desperation.
16. Censorship and the elimination of independent thought seen as worthy efforts.
17. Cavalier and mistrustful attitudes towards the rest of the world.
18. Bankrupting the economy to fund war actions and benefit war profiteering.
19. Seeking new and highly destructive technologies to implement a military advantage and superiority
20. the belief that the public has no right to know how they are governed.

Unless and until we stop these things, we can effect no improvement on the current situation, even if we succeed in electing a democratic president.

Chavez: Only a 'Traitor' Will Vote No
Nov 23 07:21 PM US/Eastern
By DAN KEANE
Associated Press Writer
CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) - President Hugo Chavez warned his supporters on Friday that anyone voting against his proposed constitutional changes would be a "traitor," rallying his political base before a referendum that would let him seek unlimited re-election in 2012 and beyond.

Brandishing a little red book listing his desired 69 revisions to Venezuela's charter, Chavez exhorted his backers to redouble their efforts toward a victorious "yes" vote in the Dec. 2 ballot.

"He who says he supports Chavez but votes 'no' is a traitor, a true traitor," the president told an arena packed with red-clad supporters. "He's against me, against the revolution and against the people."

His speech followed the recent high-profile defection of his former Defense Minister Gen. Raul Baduel, a longtime ally who called the president's proposed reforms a "coup." Others have also broken with the Chavista movement in recent months, including politicians of the small left-leaning party Podemos.
