Well, the season is already in full swing. It’s about time to make a choice.

My top ten:

10. Bushes and Shrubs (various species) ...If you don’t give a damn, you can settle for any old bush or shrub. A good looking bush is not hard to find, and even easier to decorate.

9. Scotch Pine (pinus sylvestris) …The scotch pine is a step up from a bush, yet still looks very much like a bush. However, her familiar plumage is appealing to many people.

8. Bristlecone Pine (pinus longaeva) …The bristlecone pine is the oldest living thing out there. It commonly grows on gravely mountain tops, far off the beaten path. Not many people will go for this one, as it’s relatively unknown. But it’s good to know it’s out there.

7. Eastern Redcedar (junirperus viginiana) …The eastern redceader has a familiar look and an exposed crown. This species, however, is slow growing and will not likely last as long as the others. If you don’t want to do the work, you best stay away from this one.

6. White Spruce (picea glauca) …Don’t let the name fool you; this one is as green as they come. But its slender, untraditional appearance is appealing to anybody looking for a change.

5. Ponderosa Pine (pinus ponderosa) …The ponderosa pine is a departure from what you usually see this time of year. But it’s native to California and very popular throughout the southwestern states.

4. Balsam Fir (abies balsamea) ...Looking for tradition with zeal? Look no further than the balsam fir. This silver-topped beauty is native to the northeastern United States and makes a statement to which almost any traditionalist can relate.

3. Douglas Fir (seudotsuga menziesii) …Absolutely gorgeous! The plumage is far and beyond superior to any other species on the list. Because it requires meticulous grooming, the douglas fir can break the bank. But, from where I sit, it’s worth every penny.

2. Nobel Fir (abies procera) …What’s in a name? If not for the fact that it’s so hard to get, the nobel fir would have been my top choice. Too bad. This thing is the goods.

1. Dennis Kucinich (dennis kucinich) …If you want to do the right thing, vote for Dennis Kucinich.

6. Clinton 1st, Obama 2nd, Kucinich 3rd in ’button battle’
Clinton 1st, Obama 2nd, Kucinich 3rd in ’button battle’

Updated at 2:50 p.m.

GREENVILLE (AP) – Nevermind the polls. A company that supplies Democratic campaign paraphernalia has its own ideas about who the party’s favorites are heading toward the presidential primary season.

Tigereye Design, based in this city about 30 miles northwest of Dayton, produces buttons, bumper stickers, T-shirts and other Democratic candidate merchandise sold nationwide at party and union events. Sales numbers put U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton of New York out in front among the presidential hopefuls, followed closely by U.S. Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois, said Tigereye owner Tony Baltes.

And, though U.S. Rep. Dennis Kucinich of Cleveland is barely registering in the national polls, he’s third in sales.

“He may not have a lot of followers, but the ones that are out there seem to buy a bunch per capita,” Baltes said. Kucinich merchandise has been particularly popular among Democrats in Iowa, New Hampshire, California, Michigan, New Jersey and Tennessee.
