Statement of Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton on Australian Elections

"I want to extend my warmest congratulations to the Australian Labor Party and its leader, Kevin Rudd, on their election victory. Australia is a close ally and a longtime friend of the United States. We have important economic links with Australia, we work together on numerous issues of mutual concern, such as regional security, and our future relationship will be crucial when it comes to dealing with global problems like climate change. I am heartened by Mr. Rudd’s commitment to fight global warming and I hope that the United States and Australia will work together in crafting a post-Kyoto agreement to tackle the climate change challenge. I know that, under this new leadership, the relationship between the United States and Australia will continue to strengthen in the years to come."
