6. No, he suggested it, and Paul's spokesperson shot it down in no uncertain terms. |
|
That's why it's a nonstory now. The guy he made the offer to slapped it back.
Paul will probably get more votes than Kucinich after all, I suspect. Not that it matters in the big picture--neither one is going to win.

16. Yep. A caller on WASHINGTON Journal posed the question initially. |
|
The CSPAN clip is on YOUTUBE. All Paul did was make a noncomittal remark or three, without a specific answer. A week later, we heard the story about DK's remarks at the houseparty on Mason RD in Acworth NH. A day or so before that event, we heard the wife making remarks about it.
You know what they say about publicity--spell my name right.
It's run its course, though.

17. I know Paul shot it down. Kuc genuinely and enthusiastically unleashed this awful Ron Paul idea |
|
and Paul nixed it and I am sure Kuc got a lot of grief from his supporters too. I have no doubt that if Pau was into it, Dennis would be too. I have never thought Kuc would make a good President, even though I like most of his votes, so his flip flop doesn't mean a lot to me.
However, it probably means we will have less of the "even though Ron Paul totally blows ass on 80% of the issues, don't you think Kucinich/Paul 08 is good idea?" threads. THAT is what I am thankful for.

Kucinich/Paul 08 was a stupid idea. I like Kucinich just fine, but like a large majority of Dems I don't support him for our nomination. I don't fault anyone who continues to support him despite his faults. I do fault anyone who thinks we should be voting for Ron Paul.
All the candidates have said and done dumb things, they all get called out for it on DU.

i've seen you on enough Kucinich threads to tell your intent. You don't speak for a majority of Dems, just yourself. And it's evident when you are early on in this one with the same tired talking points (flip flop, now where have i heard that before?..) that you aren't supporting DK.
now let's see, as i recall, the last thread i remember seeing you that wasn't anti-DK, you were reporting from freeperville... did you learn alot there?

Now run along and stop trying to interfere with discussions that plainly upset you. That's called 'disruption' and it's not terribly nice. There's a little button you can push called IGNORE and that will prevent future upset of your rather delicate constitution.
But don't go telling people to continue anything in private. You go on and get lost if you can't deal.

and i've always found the best advice is delivered from those that can live by it. Since you're not in any place to 'advise' me, i'll just continue to speak my mind whether you like it or not. You come across as some old, crusty, prune telling me to 'run along', accusing me of disrupting, as if you were sniffing at me over a china teacup. Is that some persona you've developed? One that feels entitled to set rules that you don't live by yourself? How elitest, how transparantly tissue thin.
why should i utilize the 'ignore' feature, while you don't. I actually enjoy seeing you make a damn fool of yourself on these DK threads with your idiotic tirades. Even if it is sad in some sick way. Okay, now i do feel bad for pitying you afterall, and secretly enjoying it a bit. <insert weepy emoticon here>
and i truly hope this little bit of truth concerning Dennis is not too upsetting for you. but if it is, tough shit. You'll just have to get over it. My ass is about as happy over it as i could be. dp

Please tell me you are joking. "Almost everyone I know is pro-Kucinich?" You obviously don't have a very diverse set of friends. You are like a walking example of a closeted liberal. Why do people have a hard time understanding how people they don't like can win elections? Here's a clue: there are many, many, many people out there that aren't like you. Get used to it.

I have been stewing over this since it started (like many of you). I could not reconcile this decision (adding Paul) with what I thought I knew about K. I thought the reasoning for thinking about this was sound, not that I really want a Republican or a Libertarian that close to the office, at least not at this time. I had a suspicion that he was just toying with the thought because he does that. He either never really meant it or he listened to all those who were really not happy. I hope he was really listening, that is what we need now is a leader who not only cares about all of us but will listen and take council from his/her constituents. He IS right about the fact that his constituents are from both sides of the aisle. Good, I can sleep a little better tonight. I was simply never going to vote for someone who would have Ron Paul that close to being our leader.

Good to see you :loveya: and I hope to see you more often. My son is taking his girlfriend to NYC and she is hoping to get tickets to see Daniel R. in Equus. She knew nothing about the play. Man is she in for a surprise! I hope she loves it though, I am totally jealous!

It was painful to watch DK notices this week, but as of today, it's clear that it was Ron Paul who was darkening the glen.
I dislike Paul from many years back and simply don't have an objective view of the man.
It was an uneasy juxtaposition and I wanted it gone!
And it is.
So your loyalty to a good man and a leading Congressman has been borne out.
I love the way New York is flickering so often in your family's destiny.

|
if I did not have so many animals and good land to provide for them and my family and hopefully many others next year with a big garden, I would be moving there yesterday. (sorry about that sentence, I am too tired to worry about how odd it is :))
It was painful this last week. I could go along with a bipartisan ticket someday but not now, we have too much difference now. It used to be that we all pretty much wanted the same thing but had different ways to get there. Now I see that we do not even have the same hopes and dreams for our country and I am not entirely sure many of the Dems do either. As much as I love the way DK thinks around things and tries things this one was a deal breaker for me. Now I can relax.
New York is strong, its pull is mighty. I can't wait to get back. Fingers crossed that our old house sells, we have someone waiting for their sale before they commit. Once that is done we can breathe a little easier and make plans for another trip. The Atlantic has some interesting offerings this season and of course Little Mermaid has a local (Topeka) woman playing Ursula so that would be fun. We should all plan a big meet up there. Thomcat was a wonderful guide and an awesome guy. We could have so much fun and see so many plays and musicals. Ahhh, a girl can dream!

quadropeds. I envy you your opportunity to be around them. I miss the ones I'd spent time with.
Someone ages ago must have felt the same way about horses as you do, because he or she painted their image on those cave walls at Las Caux (sp?), to be discovered by a later age -- by a group of teenagers, in fact.
I know the artist felt they way you did because these weren't horses of kings or dukes or noblemen, nor decorated battle steeds or parade animals from some festival.
They were secret horses. The image of beasts sketched into the stone for no other reason than that the beasts were beautiful.
No wonder Alan Strang responded as he did. I don't blame him one bit.
You will have good fortune in the buy/sell matrix and before you know it, off you'll go to another adventure.

although I'm leaning toward John Edwards -- a man I feel tells it like it is, and a man I believe is genuine concerning what he wants to accomplish.
His hesitancy about equal marriage gives me pause. However, the fact that his brilliant wife and their daughter support gay marriage gives me hope that they might be able to influence him. ;)
So where was I? Oh, what a nice post about Kucinich (the other candidate I've been considering). You're just so diplomatic and reasonable and a terrific peacemaker. I really admire you.
I would support you in a heartbeat for office if you ever decide to run!!

54. cboy, I'm blushing like a rose hedge here... you're praising the |
|
blossoms and ignoring the thorns.
Very gracious words, and I thank you, but all the good will we have on these boards is a group effort, kind of an accumulated snowdrift, and quite a bit of those footprints in that snow are yours, too.
I lived for a brief period long ago in a satellite town of Cleveland. There was this young Democratic politician then -- Dennis Kucinich -- vying to become Cleveland's mayor. That Dennis Kucinich is pretty much the same good man our Dennis Kucinich is now.
The powerful interests began to try to undo him. He came roaring back, vindicated, and now holds a seat in the Congress.
The same kind of powerful interests also dislike Edwards. It's a perilous kind of game to play -- opposing corporate control in the name of the people who in turn support the corporations by lining up at places like Wal-Mart etc.
I'm well off-subject here, but if you like films at all and don't mind subtitles, we've been on a mid-autumn film streak here, and can recommend to you a couple that are especially good: John Greyson's LILIES and a French film, JUST A QUESTION OF LOVE.

23. These next few months are going to be revealing. |
|
I'm nervous about what Dennis said. But I have a feeling he's playing his cards. He's way to bright to overlook Ron Paul's serious shortcomings, regardless of how many very good stances Ron Paul has.
One more wrinkle in the fabric to smooth out. Or not?

62. There is so much for the next president (a REAL president) to repair....it's a HERCULEAN task |
|
unless, of course, the next president doesn't want to 'repair' ANYTHING ....just continue on this TRAGIC course (I don't want to 'name names', but let's say Hillary or ANY vomitous Repub Candidates).....
Dennis KNOWS this.....and yet he's willing to step into the job. He was BORN for this/prepared for this...at this moment in time. I can envision Dennis, as president, working hand-in-hand, with Al Gore, and his connections to help 'right' this world.....

28. They'll go back to making fun of him about UFO's or |
|
saying he looks too much like an elf to be president;
Or they'll just continue dwelling on the fact he suggested it in the first place.
I'd be stunned if the DU critics write anything positive in response to what Kucinich said during this interview.
(For a guy who is still undecided (me), I sure spend a lot of time defending DK).
But I'm happy to do it.

Whoever you decide on you are certainly welcome to help defend DK. There really are quite a few who support other candidates but can be open enough to support others choices as well and keep the dialog open. Just so ya know, I respect you too and of course OC (as you said above) and all the others...gateley and now my mind is drawing a big blank, time for bed. :hi: Goodnight!

92. Tech Notes for Newbies: Time bars on your media players! |
|
Note: The following does not apply to most, if not all, live streaming videos.
Once you have started playing your media file, you can adjust the to what part of you video you want to watch or listen to. This is important should there be much drivel in the piece. To do so, look below the 'screen' section of your player. You should find what looks like a knob which is moving as your file plays. This represents your time bar. You may grabe the knob with your cursor (continuing to hold down the left clicker on your mouse) and move the time bar forward and back. You can follow where the time gets moved to should your media player (and most if not all have them) have a timestamp. The further along the time bar you move the knob, the later in the file gets played. You'll find this is true with YouTube videos as well.

73. If you listen to Dennis the critical point is "He;s not interested" |
|
Ron Paul is running for the Republican presidency and does not want the ticket, period. That's the basis of the turnaround: Kucinich is not making some fundamental turnaround. As always, Dennis is consistent and stubborn: He would, I suggest, consider Paul if he was available.

75. I still maintain that Dennis floated the Paul thing for only one reason |
|
to try and draw some of the indie/libertarian interest that's focused on Paul. Actually make that two reasons- and to get some buzz.
It's politics. Dennis is a politician. Not a spiritual leader.

|
I have watched this whole thing unfold without many comments, to wait until all the information was out. From the audio clip, Dennis makes it clear that Ron Paul passed on Dennis' proposal, and that's why this is "over."
It scares me to think that if Paul was into this idea, Dennis would still be considering it. This all still very disappointing.

The most outspoken proud progressive in the country for a decade is running for President againts people who voted to bomb Iraqi children with horrible weapons, and you're hung up over an offhand comment Dennis once made. Think about how illogical that is.

83. Is America ready for a people's president? |
|
I had this thought last night, and I don't really know where to post it.
For whatever reason, Ron Paul was uttered by Dennis Kucinich. It threw me for a loop. But why he did it, only he will know. Perhaps it was a calculated message to bring votes, but not bring too much criticism. One thing that strikes me about Kucinich is that he is a people's politician. He's not a "politician" as much as he is a person. He's real. He's been there. He's one of us.
But here is something that struck me in the middle of the night. America is made up of more than people. Now be careful before judging me, because I'm fully aware that the Constitution is about us, and not about anything else. But America is also made up of corporations. And more and more they are being represented in our government. Until now it appears they're in the front seat. In fact, I would say the Civil War was fought not over personal rights, but over commercial rights. After all, blacks were still unable to vote after that. It was about slavery. Not about the slaves. But that's my very limited concept of the war, and anyone can correct me if I'm incorrect.
So is America ready for a president who represents the people above the corporations? It seems to me that this is the trouble Fox and CNN and the rest have with Kucinich. They're scared silly someone like him will be elected. Obviously. Alter the FCC, and suddenly things might actually have to be fair and balanced.
Isn't this the real war? One that could take another book to explain. But basically our rights versus theirs? We've been lost in the noise. The no-bidders, the military supporters, the lobbyists.
I'm not sure what I'm saying. I don't see any candidate winning the race who isn't going to tow the status quo corporate agenda. I'm not sure what that means. How could they not? After all, the corporations are really made of us, the people. So maybe it's just the image that Kucinich needs to overcome. The image that he's going to reign in greed.
But the basic idea is that our presidents now represent two societies. Us, and the companies. We need to alter our perception of what is good for the country, and what is good for the companies. And I think the conservative agenda only benefits a few. But overall, even the conservatives would benefit from Dennis Kucinich's ideas.

87. So the vanity of the reactionary Kooch-haters have to find something else to smear him with? |
|
After all, we have mainstream candidates who are being financed with more Wall Street and defense industry cash than any other campaign in history, and some off-hand comment Kucinich makes praising Ron Paul makes him demon incarnate.
The false rage over it was hilarious, and sad.

|
From what I see and read, Ron Paul has a hell of a lot more support out there than DK...the money totals say it all. If anything, it would Kucinich who would be Paul's VP...not the other way around. Glad DK retracted this stupid idea it sure didn't help make any new converts.

Ron Paul opposes the 1964 Civil Rights Act.
And Dennis wanted HIM for a running mate? And now that Paul has (predictably) shot him down, he wants everyone to forget that he ever tried to throw the Democratic Party's most loyal voting block under the bus like that?
Well, tough. The issue isn't over -- he is.
You just can't ever trust them. I guess that's the moral of this story.
