I'll benefit from this because I usually only focus on Biden these days and only really hear the others during the debates, so I'm looking forward to this.
There's another big shindig later on today, too -- the Brown and Black, so we'll definitely get our fill today. Thanks for posting this!
It's on C-Span for those who didn't know...

57. I don't understand that. |
|
The whole point of a debate is to hear the candidates respond to IMPORTANT questions and issues. With this format, the important questions and issues have been decided, not by corporate mainstream media and their talking heads, but by actual groups of Democrats. We get to hear people talk from where they really "live," rather than have the issues, and the spin, decided for us by corporate media. Then we get to hear the candidate respond with a substantive answer.
We don't have to sit through half an hour of Clinton/Obama before we get to hear the rest of them speak, or hold our bladder desperately, because we're afraid that if we leave the room for a minute or two, we will miss the only time one of the others gets to speak. We don't have to sit idly by while we get questions about UFOs and diamonds vs pearls.
I don't tune into a debate to be entertained, but to be informed.
Hopefully, we won't have to listen to any talking heads analyze what we heard and tell us what we should think about it, either. Treating debate listeners with enough respect to allow them to do their own analysis would be refreshing.
Most importantly, I don't think CSpan will run polls to see who "won." In this format, it's not about "winning," it's about informing, and being informed. The "winning" in Iowa happens at the caucuses.

First of all...she could have not bothered addressing them at all. But the fact that she did it via phone shows that she cares about addressing their concerns.
And for them to treat her like that, was absolutely disgusting.

58. I agree. They owe her an apology or a response. |
|
The satellite phone was a risk for her; she took it anyway because they matter.
If they don't apologize, they ought at least offer to clarify what got confused when that guy who asked about immigration reform legislation ALSO asked about a hundred days (when the 100 day question was the hostess's job) and the audience booed an answer that they quite possibly did NOT understand.
Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement should mail their membership and clarify what happened to HC and explain that she, indeed, cannot create immigration reform legislation in the first 100 days by fiat.

59. Perhaps because she didn't define the kind of legislation she'd send to the Hill? |
|
Edited on Sat Dec-01-07 05:07 PM by TahitiNut
She gave a canned, non-committal answer and then ran for cover - evading the question. Yes, EVERYONE knows that Congress is in control of legislation, but EVERYBODY also knows that the President can send a bill to Congress for its approval. But God forbid that Hill be held to the same expectations that other candidates are held to, huh? (After all, she's just a girl, right?)
Here's a clue: When folks ask a policy question and get a process response, they rightfully feel dissed.

path to citizenship. Now, I am supporting Sen. Clinton's candidacy. I am voting for her. But on that particular issue, I disagree.
I am not for creating a path to citizenship for people who haven't even attempted to enter this country legally.
However, she gave a policy response.
So your criticism of her, is unfair.
Moreover, PROCESS is important as well. People need to know HOW their government works as well.
