Poll question: Do you like Hillary Clinton?
Edited on Sun Dec-02-07 08:45 AM by Onlooker
Note that this poll is not asking if you support Hillary, it's asking if you like her.

Some believe that there's sexism behind the opposition to Hillary. (I think that's certainly part of it.) Maybe this poll will give some insight into that.

1. How can I "like" someone I don't know?
I respect her as a Senator, however, I DO NOT want her as my candidate.

her seat in the Senate seems to be something she wanted merely for a run for the preidency.

He was supposed to represent his constituents in the state of North Carolina while he was in the senate.

He did not serve them well. I know. I was one of them.

On any bill that his vote would have swayed the outcome he would have made it. I doubt there were any at the time.

50. IT WAS HIS JOB, PAID BY THE TAXPAYERS
TO REPRESENT THEM IN THE SENATE. THAT JOB MEANS TO VOTE!

He was not representing his constituents while he was campaigning for president.

BUT! He did co-sponsor and vote for the genocide of the Iraqi people.

51. IT WAS HIS JOB TO HELP KERRY WIN THE PRESIDENCY.
Caps make you appear right?

He is from a southern state. His constituency are majority rightwingers and he did what they wanted him to do right, later realizing it was a mistake and apologizing for it.

Personally I don't trust any of the politicians running completely but Edwards is the best for the job.

5. 'Like' is purely subjective
I don't think it makes any difference why you like or dislike her. Perhaps you dislike her because you think she's shrill or dishonest. Perhaps you like her because you think she's hot or she's strong. Or, if you don't have any feelings towards her, than choose the 'neither like nor dislike' option. I think for most people, she arouses some emotional feeling that can be called like or dislike.

I guess I won't vote in the poll. Honesty and dishonesty are hard things to get a handle on. Strength is relative to one's opinion which may or may not be real. Like is a term hard to define as to answering such a poll of a politician running and is irrelevant to me as I look to substance. I don't know how to answer it.

maybe in the lounge late one night. To answer your question, I am female. I don't know Ms.Clinton personally so neither like nor dislike her as a person. I do not want her as my presidential candidate or president though as I disagree with many of her policies and find her too much of a politician.

8. If "Like" Is How You Rate A Candidate, Stay Home
This election is not a popularity contest...there's a ton of messes that need to be cleaned up and whomever takes over on 1-20-09 is gonna have to hit the ground running to start turning things around. Those who are so shallow as to only base how they vote or the candidate they support based on "like" or "hate" do all of us a diservice and insult the political system.

Pretty shallow excuses...but that's your perogative. I'm no fan of McAuliffe and have become totally disenchanted with Carville, but I haven't heard that either is running her campaign or that they would have any role in a future administration.

Having covered elections in the past, almost every campaign has "scumbags"...and again, I'm not voting for a best friend, I'm voting for the candidate that can be the most effective in cleaning up the messes 7 1/2 years of booosh and cheney have left upon this country. Elections aren't a popularity contest.

She is however, a woman who worked her way up through college, became a lawyer, worked hard, raised a child, and did many of the things we all do in those regards. I may not support her as a nominee this time because of some of her stances, but I don't equate that to liking or disliking her. If that is still the criteria for voting then we will see it hasn't changed much then from the "he's a candidate I want to have a beer with" mentality that got us in this mess to begin with.

this is stupid. I don't know or want to know any politician. I want to believe an elected official can handle the job. I believe that Hillary can. I believe that all of the Democratic Party candidates can. A few of the opposition party's candidates probably can handle the job too. I don't have to "like" any candidate to vote for them. Why is it important to know how white males vs. non-white males feel? Surely, it couldn't be a "white men are mostly horrible" sentiment, right?

To answer your question: I'm a white man who neither likes nor dislikes Sen Clinton. She's not my first choice (nor my second, for that matter), but I'll happily vote for her should she get the nomination.

EDIT: Additionally, I'm curious about what kind of conclusion you're looking to make with the data from this poll.

She seems genuine in what she espouses (to the extent that you can and run a campaign in our present political climate.)

I only met her the one time in 1992 and she was engaging and personable at a fundraiser in Charlotte. I can only go by that. Or perhaps we'll cross paths again and I'll get an update.

But I certainly don't hate her and I don't hate the idea of her running.

63. I like Hillary, but I'm not voting for her
I think that she's got too much baggage, the Wingnuts are licking their chops to run against her, and I think that there are a lot of other good candidates out there. It's not a gender thing. I'm happy that a woman is the front-runner. It's just that I wish it was a woman that wasn't as polarizing. We need someone to unite the country. Hillary isn't that person.

67. RESULTS
As of now with 106 male votes and 146 women votes the breakdown is as follows:

23% of men like her
18% of men neither like nor dislike her
59% of men dislike her

37% of women like her
8% of women neither like nor dislike her
55% of women dislike her

There must be a reason related to gender for the difference in the "like her" numbers.

72. Has nothing to do with like or hate.
What I hate is her less-than-Democratic positions on Bewsh's wars, job offshoring, free trade in general, Big-insurance-controlled health care and Kyl/Lieberman. She's not an ideal candidate for those who want forward-progress CHANGE.

73. Like her (white male).
I saw and met her in South Carolina.

(I'm assuming this poll is similar to "would you have a beer with X?")

74. I believe Hillary to be dissimulative in character,
a typical attribute found in most politicians these days, and for some reason, even though it seems customary in America to propel these kind of people too the top, I for one am not fooled and want nothing to do with them, and that includes Hillary…

75. I like her a lot. I just don't want her as president.
I like my uncle Jerry too. He has no business being president either.
