There have been repeated reports like this one that oil is headed to $30 per barrel and could spend much of 2007 in the range of $45 per barrel.

What's going on? Is it just oil price shedding off high prices created by speculative investors no longer playing?

Or is there something more going on?

Big oil waging war against alternative petroleum sources (i.e. oil sands) or suddenly popular interest in alternative liquid fuels (ethanol and bio-diesel)?

Is it Saudi Arabia using oil as a weapon against Iran in their proxy war in Iraq?

In a market where the robber-barons can get all the traffic will bear--and they know it will bear over $60 per barrel oil--it's very hard to understand why producers would keep supply so high.
